Fall changeover, Central Oklahoma

## Your furnace has been off since March.

The first real cold snap is when the no-heat calls start, and it lands on everybody the same week. I would rather find the cracked igniter now than at 10 o’clock on a November night. A furnace tune-up is $229. The One Visit Spring or Fall 360 plan is $199 and the visit is included.

Same-day heat calls in the 7 counties I run every day. Geothermal heats too, and it is what I know best.

## What I Know About HVAC in Central Oklahoma

47 years in this trade teaches you things no textbook covers.

Oklahoma’s Climate Is Harder on HVAC Than Most People Realize

Central Oklahoma summers regularly hit 100-110°F with relative humidity above 80% in July and August. That combination, extreme heat
and
high moisture, means your cooling system has to handle both sensible load (temperature) and latent load (humidity removal) simultaneously. A system designed for Denver’s dry heat will leave a Kingfisher home feeling cold and clammy in August because it was never built to pull that much moisture from the air. Oklahoma winters bring the opposite problem: ground temperatures that drop fast enough to cut a standard
heat pump’s efficiency
in half, plus ice storms that stress equipment that hasn’t been properly maintained. I’ve been diagnosing both extremes in this specific climate for 15+ years.

Oversizing Is the Most Common HVAC Mistake in Oklahoma

Most HVAC contractors in Oklahoma still size equipment using square-footage rules of thumb. The result is systems that are too large: they drop the temperature quickly, then shut off before removing enough humidity from the air. You end up cold but damp, and over time, that moisture feeds mold. The other consequence is premature compressor wear from short-cycling. A Manual J load calculation is the engineering standard that accounts for your home’s actual insulation values, window area and orientation, infiltration rate, ceiling height, and local weather data. I run one before I size a replacement. It takes longer than a tape measure and a phone call, but it’s the only way to know what your home actually needs, not what a rule of thumb says it should need.

Oklahoma’s Geology Makes Geothermal Unusually Effective Here

About six to eight feet below the surface in central Oklahoma, ground temperature holds steady at roughly 59-62°F year-round, regardless of whether it’s 108°F outside in August or 14°F in a January ice storm. That stable thermal mass is what a geothermal heat pump exchanges with instead of outdoor air. In summer it’s cool enough to reject heat efficiently; in winter it’s warm enough to extract heat even when a conventional heat pump would be struggling. The result is a system that stays efficient year-round in exactly the conditions that hammer conventional equipment hardest.
ENERGY STAR certified geothermal heat pumps
are on average over 45% more energy efficient than standard options. Several Oklahoma utilities and rural electric cooperatives run geothermal rebate programs, including CKenergy and Cimarron Electric, plus the OMPA WISE program for city utilities like Kingfisher’s. The amounts and the eligibility rules change by utility and by program date, so I will not quote you a number I have not checked. Tell me your ZIP code and your electric utility and I will verify the current official program for your address before we talk dollars. I’m one of very few IGSHPA Accredited installers in the state, the certification that means the loop was engineered correctly for Oklahoma’s soil conditions, not just dug and filled.

When Something Goes Wrong

The most common calls I get:
AC running but not cooling
,
furnace that won’t start
,
warm air blowing from the vents
, and
water leaking from the air handler
. In most cases these can be diagnosed and resolved in a single visit. I charge a flat $99 dispatch fee and $111 diagnostic, part of the $210 flat repair-call price. The diagnostic is part of the $210 total. I give you a written repair estimate before repair work starts. No stacking fees, no surprises. If the repair cost is significant, I tell you before I start. If replacement makes more financial sense than repair, I’ll say so honestly and give you both options with real numbers.

The water heater plan is $199 a year.
If I am already at your house for the air conditioner or the geo, I will tune the water heater for $99 as an add-on. Oklahoma hard water cuts a water heater’s life short, an annual inspection can add 3 to 5 years.

# Oklahoma Geothermal Rebates 2026 | What Is Actually Available

Last updated: August 1, 2026

Oklahoma geothermal rebates in 2026 range from a flat few hundred dollars to $24,000, and the thing that decides which one is yours is who sends your electric bill.

If CKenergy Electric Cooperative bills you, the geothermal rebate is $2,000 per ton, capped at $24,000 per member
(Source:
CKenergy
)
. If a city or town utility bills you, you are on the municipal WISE program instead, which is capped and set town by town. If OG&E bills you, the Oklahoma residential rebates are closed for 2026 and OG&E says they return in 2027.

I rewrote this page on August 1, 2026 because parts of it had gone stale, and a stale rebate number is worse than no number at all. Somebody signs a contract expecting money that is not there. Below is what I can actually stand behind today, what I have to confirm at quote time, and what is flat out gone. Background reading:

## Oklahoma Has Three Utility Worlds, and Yours Decides the Number

Oklahoma is not one rebate market. It is three of them layered on top of each other, and moving from one to another can change your rebate by thousands of dollars on the exact same equipment.

1. Municipal

A city or town utility department sends your bill. Most of these towns buy their power through the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority, and OMPA runs the WISE heat pump rebate for them.

2. Electric cooperative

A member-owned co-op sends your bill. CKenergy, Cimarron Electric, OEC and Northwestern are all co-ops, and every one of them sets its own rebate independently.

3. Investor-owned

OG&E or PSO sends your bill. These are the big regulated companies, and their residential rebate programs run on an approved cycle that can close for a full year at a time.

The thing that decides your rebate is who sends your electric bill, not which county you live in.
Two houses a mile apart on the same section road can sit in two different worlds. That is why the first thing I ask for is your bill, not your address.

It also explains something that surprises people right here at home. CKenergy pays the largest geothermal rebate anywhere near me, and CKenergy does not serve Kingfisher County. That is not a Kingfisher County problem, it is a different world. Most of the city of Kingfisher is on the municipal side, and much of the rural county is served by Cimarron Electric. Both of those have their own geothermal rebate. You are not shut out, you are just in a different lane.

Not sure which utility serves you?
The utility name is on the first page of your electric bill. Or call me at
405-375-4822
. I know the territory and can confirm which rebate applies to your address, at no charge.

## CKenergy Electric Cooperative Members: $2,000 Per Ton

CKenergy runs one of the most aggressive geothermal rebate programs in Oklahoma
, and it covers a big share of the territory I work. If CKenergy appears on your electric bill, this is your program. To see the right next step for your home, start with my

## CKenergy Service Area, Are You Eligible?

CKenergy serves roughly 28,000 member accounts across
10 counties in western and south-central Oklahoma
: Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Comanche, Custer, Dewey, Grady, Kiowa, Roger Mills and Washita. If CKenergy appears on your electric bill, you are in the program.
Kingfisher County is not in CKenergy territory
, which is the single most common mix-up I correct on the phone.

If you want to run your own numbers before you call me, I built a rebate tool that walks through the math by utility and system size. See

## Municipal Towns: The OMPA WISE Heat Pump Rebate

If a city or town utility department sends your electric bill, you are almost certainly on the WISE program run by the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority. This is the program most homeowners on this page have never heard of, and it is the one I get asked about least and use most.

OMPA WISE, geothermal electric heat pump

Up to $800.00 per cooling ton per AHRI

Read the words “up to” carefully, because they are the whole story.
That number is a ceiling, not a rate. OMPA’s own program summary says the city or town may rebate at any level, and OMPA will match on a 50/50 percent basis up to the amounts shown. Your town decides what it actually pays, and the ceiling is what OMPA will match to. Nobody should quote you a total until the town’s level is confirmed, and I confirm it before I put a number on your estimate.

Dual fuel and replacement systems fall under a separate, much smaller line on the same program, up to $250, and it carries the same 50/50 matching ceiling.

What the system and the job have to do to qualify:

- Minimum EER 17.1, or EER2 16.36.The AHRI certificate is what proves it, and the rebate is calculated per cooling ton off that certificate.

- An operating integrated water heater or desuperheater is required. This one is not optional and it is where most quotes fall down. If the system does not make hot water, it does not qualify.

- New installation or conversion only.A straight like-for-like swap does not earn the full geothermal line.

- An in-home energy audit before installation. It happens before the equipment goes in, not after, and there is no going back and doing it later.

- Licensed contractor.Oklahoma Master HVAC license, which I hold, plus IGSHPA accreditation on the loop side.

- Paperwork submitted within 90 days.Miss the window and the rebate is gone even if everything else was perfect.

- A one-time contractor agreement with the city.I handle that per town so you never see it.

I wrote the whole thing up in detail, including how the town-by-town level works, on my
OMPA geothermal rebate
page.

Which towns are OMPA members?

Kingfisher, Okeene, Watonga and Edmond are confirmed OMPA member communities. There are more, and I am deliberately not printing a full list here, because membership changes and because
each town sets its own participation and its own rebate level
. Do not read a town name on this page as a promise of a specific amount. Tell me who bills you and I will confirm your town’s current level before I quote anything.

## OG&E Customers: Oklahoma Residential Rebates Are Closed for 2026

Here is the straight answer, and I would rather give it to you now than after you have signed something.
OG&E’s Oklahoma residential rebate programs are closed for 2026.
I verified that against OG&E’s own site on August 1, 2026. OG&E says the programs return in 2027. There is no residential geothermal rebate to claim from OG&E on a system installed this year.

This page used to carry an OG&E per-ton figure. It was true once and it is not true now, so it is gone. I am not going to quote a number that does not exist just because it makes an estimate look better.

What I will do instead: if OG&E bills you,
ask me to re-check the program the day I write your quote.

Commercial geothermal is a different section of the tax code and it is still alive, which is worth knowing if you own a shop, a church, a clinic or a farm building: see

So for a home in 2026, the utility rebate is the real money on the table. That is why getting your utility right matters more than it used to.

The heaviest concentration is still close to home.

## For Geothermal I Travel Across Almost the Entire State

My daily service trucks run a seven-county area, but
geothermal is different: I travel across Oklahoma and into most of the states that border it for it, depending on the customer and the project.
I have worked geothermal in Kingfisher, Okarche, Hennessey, Watonga, Dover, Loyal, Cashion, Crescent, Piedmont, Edmond, Yukon, Mustang, El Reno, Guthrie, Enid, Geary, Okeene, Fairview, Thomas, Ames and Oklahoma City, and I have gone as far as Lawton, Broken Bow and Durant for the right job. There is one shop, in Kingfisher, and I drive from it. If you want geothermal and you are in Oklahoma, call me.

## Why a Local Installer Makes the Difference

I reach co-op and municipal territory alike out of my shop in Kingfisher. I am not a metro contractor who has never seen a loop field in red clay.

I have installed geothermal for co-op members and city utility customers throughout my 15+ years in business. I know the programs, I know the paperwork, and I am accountable to the same community I serve.

- Local accountability, your neighbor, not a metro contractor

- IGSHPA Accredited, the geothermal credential these programs ask for

- ClimateMaster GeoElite Dealer, equipment that meets the EER minimums the rebates require

- 15+ years installing geothermal in central and western Oklahoma

- Full rebate paperwork included, AHRI cert, EER docs, contractor license, IGSHPA cert, completion report

A rebate only means something once you know the number it comes off of. Read
what a geothermal system actually costs in Oklahoma before any rebate
, then come back here with your utility name.

## How to Claim Your Geothermal Rebate, Step by Step

1
Confirm who bills you
Pull out your electric bill and read the utility name on the first page. That one line decides which program applies. Call me and I can usually tell you from the address.
2
Get a free estimate from me
I assess the property, design the ground loop, select qualifying equipment, and give you an installed price with the rebate confirmed against your actual program, not a number off a web page. Call
405-375-4822
.
3
Pre-installation audit where the program requires one
The municipal WISE program requires an in-home energy audit before the equipment goes in. It cannot be done after the fact, so it gets scheduled before install day, not around it.
4
My crew installs and documents the system
Loop boring, loop installation, equipment set, desuperheater or integrated water heater tie-in, and commissioning, all documented as it happens.
5
I hand you the complete documentation package

## CKenergy Member Financing, Stack a Low-Interest Loan on Top of Your Rebate

Most CKenergy members do not know this: on top of the per-ton rebate,
CKenergy offers low-interest energy efficiency loans to members
. You can use the loan to cover the installation cost, then let the rebate pay a large chunk of it back. Terms and current rate come from CKenergy directly, and I do not quote a payment for them.

Example: 4-ton system for a member

Rebate, 4 tons at $2,000 per ton
$8,000

I do not print a typical installed cost or a net amount here, because both depend on the house, the loop and the ground. Call me for a free site estimate and I will put the installed price in writing.

To apply for a CKenergy energy efficiency loan,
contact CKenergy using the member service number on your electric bill or visit
ckenergy.coop
. I provide the system quote and documentation they need to process it. If the co-op loan is not the right fit, I also work with Synchrony, Wells Fargo, Wisetack, Klarna and JB Financing, and financing covers repairs and maintenance plans too, not just installs.

## What Hartzell’s Provides to Process Your Rebate

Every one of these programs wants specific documentation from the installing contractor. I provide all of it as part of the installation:

- AHRI certification numberfor the installed equipment, which is what the per-ton calculation is based on

- EER rating documentationconfirming the system meets the program minimum

- Contractor license information, Oklahoma Master HVAC License

- IGSHPA accreditation certificatefor the ground loop work

- Completion date and system specificationsfor the application

- Equipment invoiceshowing equipment and installation cost

- The contractor agreement with your city, already on file where the municipal program requires one

I have been doing this for 15+ years. When my crew installs your geothermal system, the rebate paperwork is handled. You do not have to figure it out yourself.

## Why Utilities Pay for Geothermal at All

Electric co-ops are member-owned and municipal utilities are city-owned, so they exist to serve their customers rather than shareholders. Geothermal fits what they want: it pulls peak summer cooling load down, because the ground stays cool when the air does not, it adds winter electric load that is efficient rather than wasteful, and it keeps member money in the local system instead of sending it to a propane truck. That is why the money is real, and it is why the requirements are strict. They are buying a specific outcome, not just handing out cash.

## Common Questions

How much is the geothermal rebate in Oklahoma in 2026?

It depends entirely on who sends your electric bill. If you are a CKenergy Electric Cooperative member, the geothermal rebate is $2,000 per ton, capped at $24,000 per member. If a city or town utility bills you, you are most likely on the OMPA WISE heat pump program, which pays up to $800.00 per cooling ton per AHRI for a geothermal electric heat pump. That figure is a cap and not a set rate: the OMPA program summary says the city or town may rebate at any level and OMPA matches on a 50/50 percent basis up to the amounts shown, so your town sets the real number. Call me at
405-375-4822
with your utility name and I will tell you which program you are in.

Does OG&E still pay a geothermal rebate in Oklahoma in 2026?

No. OG&E’s Oklahoma residential rebate programs are closed for 2026, verified against OG&E’s own site on August 1, 2026. OG&E says the programs return in 2027. There is nothing to claim from OG&E on a residential system installed this year. If OG&E bills you, ask me to re-check the program the day I write your quote, because utility programs open and close without much notice.

What is the OMPA WISE rebate and how do I know if I am on it?

WISE is the heat pump rebate program run by the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority for its member cities and towns. For a geothermal electric heat pump it pays up to $800.00 per cooling ton per AHRI, and up to $250 for a dual fuel or replacement system. Both of those are caps, not set rates. OMPA’s own program summary puts it this way: the city or town may rebate at any level, and OMPA will match on a 50/50 percent basis up to the amounts shown. You are on it if a city or town utility department sends your electric bill rather than a cooperative or an investor-owned utility.

What does my geothermal system have to do to qualify for the OMPA WISE rebate?

The system has to hit a minimum EER of 17.1, or EER2 of 16.36. It has to include an operating integrated water heater or desuperheater, which is not optional on this program. It has to be a new installation or a conversion, not a straight swap of an existing geothermal unit at the full rate. There is an in-home energy audit before installation, the work has to be done by a licensed contractor, and the paperwork has to be submitted within 90 days. I hold the one-time contractor agreement with the city, so that part is already handled.

Which geothermal rebate applies if I live in Kingfisher County Oklahoma?

CKenergy does not serve Kingfisher County, so the CKenergy rebate is not yours. That does not mean you get nothing. If a city utility department bills you, you are on the municipal side and the OMPA WISE program applies at whatever level your town has set. If Cimarron Electric bills you, they publish a flat geothermal rebate, listed in the table on this page. Bring me your electric bill and I will tell you which one you are in.

Do I have to apply for the geothermal rebate myself?

Most Oklahoma rebates require a member or customer application after the installation is complete. I provide the whole documentation package: AHRI certificate, EER documentation, contractor license, IGSHPA accreditation, completion date and equipment invoice. On some programs I can submit on your behalf. On the municipal WISE program the deadline is 90 days from installation, so I do not let that sit.

How do I find out which utility serves my address in Oklahoma?

Look at the top of your electric bill. The utility name and your account number are on the first page, and that name is the single thing that decides your rebate. It is not the county, and it is not your mailing address. If you would rather not dig it out, call me at
405-375-4822
and I can usually tell you from the address.

Water Heater and Desuperheater Maintenance

Your geothermal system makes hot water through its desuperheater, and the municipal rebate program actually requires that piece to be there and working. Most HVAC and plumbing companies have never serviced one. I check the connection between your geothermal heat pump and your water heater so you keep the efficiency the system was designed to deliver, and so the equipment still matches what the rebate paperwork says it is.

## 2026 Oklahoma Rebate Program Index

Quick reference for the program names, requirements and paperwork behind everything above.

### Programs I Can Stand Behind Today

CKenergy Electric Cooperative residential geothermal rebate, per ton with a per-member cap. OMPA WISE Heat Pump Rebate Program for municipal utilities, geothermal electric heat pump line, capped and matched 50/50 with the participating city or town. Cimarron Electric Cooperative geothermal rebate, a flat published amount rather than a per-ton amount.

### Programs I Confirm Before Quoting

OEC Oklahoma Electric Cooperative, most recent published rebate sheet is a 2025 document so the 2026 amount and status are unconfirmed. KPWA Kingfisher Public Works Authority, municipal utility covered by the OMPA WISE program, participation level set locally. CREC Central Rural Electric Cooperative and NWEC Northwestern Electric Cooperative, published per-ton figures re-confirmed with the co-op before they go on an estimate.

### Closed or Expired

OG&E Oklahoma residential rebate programs, closed for 2026, OG&E says they return in 2027.

### Application Document Checklist

AHRI performance certificate with certified ratings, ENERGY STAR labeling, IGSHPA Accredited Installer credential, itemized invoice showing labor and materials, equipment serial and model numbers off the nameplate, photo documentation of the loop installation, driller depth log, loop pressure test report, antifreeze tag, pre-installation energy audit where the program requires one, and the contractor agreement with the participating city.

### Eligibility Categories

Residential single-family owner-occupied, residential rental, small business and agricultural, manufactured home on a permanent foundation, multi-family and condominium with association approval, new construction with certificate of occupancy, and retrofit or replacement with proof of disposal of the old equipment. Program rules differ by utility, and a category that qualifies on one program can be excluded on another.

### Service Area

Daily HVAC service runs Kingfisher, Canadian, Oklahoma, Garfield, Major, Logan and Blaine counties.
Geothermal is different: I take geothermal work across Oklahoma and into most of the states that border it
, depending on the customer and the project, and I have driven to Lawton, Broken Bow and Durant for it. One shop, in Kingfisher, and I drive from it.

### Performance Terms You Will See on the Paperwork

EER and EER2 cooling efficiency ratings, COP heating coefficient of performance, cooling tons as certified by AHRI, closed-loop and open-loop ground heat exchanger configurations, desuperheater and integrated water heater domestic hot water options, and the AHRI standards that ground-source and water-source equipment is rated under. The specific rating that governs your rebate is the one printed on the AHRI certificate for the exact model installed, which is why I pull that document before I put a rebate figure on an estimate.

# Geothermal Heat Pump Cost in Oklahoma (2026)

I get asked some version of this question almost every week: “Dave, what’s geothermal actually going to cost me?” And I’ll give you the same answer I give every homeowner who calls. The honest answer is that I price geothermal from my current price book after I know the lot, loop type, system tonnage, ductwork, electrical, and permit picture. If CKenergy sends your electric bill, its rebate is $2,000 per ton, $8,000 on a 4-ton system. I’ve been doing geothermal installs in Central Oklahoma for over 15 years, I hold my IGSHPA accreditation, and I’m a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer. When you call me, you get a real quote from someone who has done hundreds of these, not a ballpark from a salesman who’s never designed a loop field.

## What Does Geothermal Cost in Oklahoma? (Before Rebates)

I price a geothermal install from my current price book, after a load calculation, loop design, and a look at your ductwork, electrical, permits, and site. Existing-loop replacements and new-loop installations are different jobs. That wide range is real. For the full picture, read my
geothermal heat pump guide
. Here’s why it exists:

- System size (tonnage):A smaller system costs less than a larger one. I do not use a per-ton shortcut as the quote; my current component pricing and the site review control the final number.

- Loop field type:Horizontal loops (1+ acre available) cost less to install than vertical loops. Vertical drilling on a tight lot adds cost.

- Existing ductwork condition:A house with solid ductwork saves on install. A house with leaky, undersized ducts adds work and materials.

- Desuperheater water heating:Optional add-on that uses waste heat to pre-heat your water heater. Worth adding if you’re doing the dig anyway.

## Oklahoma Utility Rebates: What You Can Actually Capture in 2026

They are gone for 2026 installs. But many Oklahoma utility rebates are still active, and in CKenergy territory, they are the best rebates in the state.

Garfield County (Enid), Oklahoma County (NW OKC area). Oklahoma residential rebates return in 2027, and OG&E does not list a geothermal rebate.

OEC

## CKenergy Rebate Math: 4-Ton System

Example: a CKenergy member's home

- CKenergy rebate: 4 tons x $2,000 = $8,000

- Installed price: in writing at a free estimate, after the load calculation and loop design. I do not publish a net cost, because it depends on the house, the loop and confirming your CKenergy account.

On top of the rebate,
ENERGY STAR certified geothermal heat pumps
are on average over 45% more energy efficient than standard options. What that saves you each year depends on your utility rate and the system you are replacing, so I do not promise a savings number or a payback timeline. What I will do is put the installed price in writing during the free estimate.

In OG&E territory (Enid, NW OKC), residential rebates are closed for 2026 and return in 2027, and OG&E does not list a geothermal rebate. Rural Kingfisher homes on Cimarron Electric get a $600 flat geothermal rebate, and Kingfisher city homes on KPWA are in the OMPA WISE program, up to $800 per cooling ton. I walk every customer through their specific utility before we quote, so you always know the net number before you sign anything.

## Loop Field Types and Cost Factors

The loop field is the buried heat-exchange system. It is a long-life buried asset and it’s the heart of why geothermal is worth it. Two main options in Oklahoma:

### Horizontal Loop

Requires 1+ acre of open land. Trenches 5-6 feet deep. Lower drilling cost than vertical. Best option for rural properties with space. Most common in Kingfisher, Blaine, and Canadian counties.

Typical loop cost: lower

### Vertical Loop

Drill 150-300 feet deep per bore hole. Works on any lot size, including town lots and suburban homes. Higher drilling cost but same long-term performance. Common in Enid and OKC metro installs.

Typical loop cost: higher

### Loop Field Cost Comparison

Loop Type
Typical Cost
Best For

Horizontal
$3,500-$5,500
Rural lots with 1+ acres

Vertical
$5,500-$8,500
Town lots, smaller properties

Pond/Lake
$2,500-$4,500
Properties with water access

Loop costs are included in the total system price. I size and install the loop, so you don’t need a separate contractor.

Long-term value is also about what daily life with the system feels like.
Homeowner expectations versus reality
is the honest version of that.

## System Life and Long-Term Value

- Heat pump unit:20-25 years with proper maintenance (versus 12-15 for a conventional system)

- Loop field:decades. You’ll replace the unit twice before you touch the loop.

- Efficiency:ENERGY STAR certified geothermal heat pumpsare on average over 45% more energy efficient than standard options

- No outdoor unit:Nothing exposed to Oklahoma hail, wind, or ice storms

## Purchase, loan, or Full Coverage Geothermal Plan?

The right geothermal path depends on cash, credit, utility territory, and how long you expect to own the home. I compare traditional purchase, normal financing, utility rebates where confirmed, and the Full Coverage Geothermal Plan side by side before calling anything final.

### Traditional purchase or loan

You own the system. Upfront cost or loan balance is higher. Eligible utility incentives must be verified before quoting. Maintenance is separate unless included in the proposal.

### Full Coverage Geothermal Plan

Qualified homeowners may use a 10-year residential lease path with predictable monthly payment options. Installation, parts coverage, service and repair labor, and preventative maintenance are included during the lease term per program terms.

Homeowner federal tax incentives are not available on the lease path. Program terms and qualification apply.

## Financing Options

### New for geothermal: Full Coverage Geothermal Plan lease review

For qualifying residential geothermal replacements, I can review the Full Coverage Geothermal Plan powered by Palmetto: $0 upfront, a 10-year lease, one predictable monthly payment, and preventative maintenance and covered service support included under agreement terms.

Normal financing remains available too. Synchrony may offer up to 18 months at 0% for qualifying jobs, alongside Wells Fargo, Wisetack, Klarna, and JB Financing.

## Frequently Asked Questions

How much does geothermal cost in Oklahoma?

I price a geothermal install from my current price book, after a load calculation, loop design, and a look at your ductwork, electrical, permits, and site. Existing-loop replacements and new-loop installations are different jobs. Call 405-375-4822 for a site-specific estimate. System size (tonnage), loop field type (horizontal vs. vertical), and existing ductwork condition are the main cost drivers. Rebates can change the out-of-pocket number, but I verify the utility and put the net price in my written quote before you sign anything.

What counties get the CKenergy geothermal rebate?

CKenergy’s geothermal rebate is $2,000 per ton, up to $24,000 per member
(Source:
CKenergy
)
, for qualifying projects in its Oklahoma service territory. The listed counties include Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Comanche, Custer, Dewey, Grady, Kiowa, Roger Mills, and Washita. Kingfisher County is NOT in CKenergy territory. If you’re not sure which utility serves your address, I can help you confirm before we start any quote work.

Is geothermal worth it in Oklahoma?

For most Central Oklahoma homeowners with a qualifying lot, yes. Oklahoma’s extreme temperature swings from summer to winter are exactly the conditions where geothermal outperforms conventional HVAC.
ENERGY STAR certified geothermal heat pumps
are on average over 45% more energy efficient than standard options. The loop field is a long-life buried asset, the heat pump runs 20 to 25 years, and there’s no outdoor unit to take Oklahoma weather damage. How fast it pays back depends on your utility rate, the system you are replacing, and any rebate at your address, so I will not promise you a payback number. I put the installed price in writing, and you can weigh it against your own bills.

How long does geothermal pay for itself in Oklahoma?

It depends on your utility rate, the system you are replacing, and any rebate at your address. In CKenergy territory, where a 4-ton system can collect $8,000 back, the rebate takes a real bite out of the up front cost. After that, you’re running one of the most efficient heating and cooling systems available for the rest of the equipment’s life. I do not promise a payback timeline. I put the installed price in writing at the free estimate, and you decide.

What is the difference between horizontal and vertical loop geothermal?

Both use the same heat-exchange principle but the installation method differs. Horizontal loops are trenched 5 to 6 feet deep across an open area of 1 acre or more. They cost less to install and are common on rural properties. Vertical loops are drilled 150 to 300 feet straight down, require minimal land, and work on any lot size. Drilling costs more per foot but the final installed price difference is often $1,500 to $3,000 depending on soil conditions. I assess your lot during the free estimate visit and tell you which option is better for your situation.

## How the CKenergy Geothermal Rebate Works

The process is straightforward, but it requires a licensed contractor to submit the paperwork on your behalf. Here is how it works from start to finish:

- Confirm eligibility:Your property must be in CKenergy’s service territory and the geothermal system must meet minimum efficiency requirements. I verify this before you spend a dollar.

- Get a free estimate:I size the system, run a Manual J load calculation, and give you the full installed price. Free, no obligation.

- Install the system:Installation typically takes 3 to 5 days for residential, depending on the loop configuration (horizontal, vertical, or pond loop).

- I submit the rebate application:I handle the paperwork with CKenergy. You need to provide a copy of your CKenergy electric bill showing your service address and account number. That’s it on your end.

- Receive the rebate check:CKenergy processes rebate applications and issues a check directly to you. Processing time is typically 4 to 8 weeks after submission.

## Rebate Math: 4-Ton System in Canadian County

Example: 4-ton geothermal system, Canadian County (CKenergy territory)

System size

4 tons

CKenergy rebate ($2,000 x 4 tons)

-$8,000

Financing available (Synchrony, Wells Fargo, Wisetack, Klarna, JB Financing)

Yes

A 5-ton system hits the $10,000 mark; a 6-ton would generate $12,000 in rebates. The $24,000 maximum is reached at 12 tons, and CKenergy evaluates projects larger than 12 tons and all commercial projects case by case.

## What If Your County Is Not in CKenergy Territory?

Not being in CKenergy territory doesn’t mean you’re out of rebate options. Here is where the other counties I serve stand for 2026:

- Kingfisher County:Cimarron Electric offers a $600 geothermal rebate. Kingfisher city customers can also check with KPWA (Kingfisher Public Works Authority) at 405-375-3705.

- Garfield County (Enid):OG&E’s Oklahoma residential rebates are closed for 2026 and return in 2027, and OG&E does not list a geothermal rebate.

- Logan County (Guthrie/Crescent):Oklahoma Electric Cooperative (OEC) posts geothermal and heat pump conversion rebates, but its current rate sheet is dated 2025, so I confirm the 2026 amount with OEC before I quote it. See okcoop.org/rebates/ for current amounts.

- Oklahoma County (NW OKC metro):OG&E territory. OG&E’s Oklahoma residential rebates are closed for 2026 and return in 2027, and OG&E does not list a geothermal rebate.

I’ll look up your specific utility and rebate amount when I give you an estimate. You don’t have to figure this out yourself.

## Frequently Asked Questions

What counties qualify for the CKenergy geothermal rebate?
Ten Oklahoma counties are in CKenergy’s service territory and qualify for the $2,000 per ton geothermal rebate (maximum $24,000): Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Comanche, Custer, Dewey, Grady, Kiowa, Roger Mills, and Washita. Your property must receive electric service from CKenergy specifically, so it’s worth confirming your account is with them before planning a geothermal installation. Call CKenergy at 405-656-2322 or visit ckenergy.coop to verify your address.

Is Kingfisher County in CKenergy territory?
No. Kingfisher County is not in CKenergy territory. Kingfisher County is primarily served by Cimarron Electric Cooperative and, for city of Kingfisher customers, KPWA (Kingfisher Public Works Authority). Cimarron Electric offers a $600 geothermal rebate. If you’re in Kingfisher County and want to go geothermal, call me at

47 years of HVAC diagnostics. Master HVAC License. NATE Certified. Dave Hartzell, Kingfisher, Oklahoma,
405-375-4822
.

In 47 years of HVAC work across central Oklahoma, I’ve diagnosed thousands of systems. Most problems fall into a handful of categories, and most homeowners can narrow down the issue before they call, which saves time and money. This guide covers the most common symptoms, what they usually mean, what you can safely check yourself, and when you need a tech on-site. Oklahoma weather is specific: 105°F summers, ice storms in January, red dirt in everything, and humidity that swings hard in spring. Some of these diagnoses are Oklahoma-specific for that reason.

## AC Not Cooling (Running But Warm Air)

Check first (no tech needed):
Is the thermostat set to COOL, not FAN? Is the filter clogged? Is the outdoor unit running? Is a circuit breaker tripped?

### Low Refrigerant

Signs: AC runs constantly but barely cools. Ice forming on the indoor coil or copper lines. Warm air from vents even after 20+ minutes of runtime. Low refrigerant doesn’t mean you’re “out”, systems lose charge slowly through leaks, and a 10% undercharge costs you 20-30% of cooling capacity.
This requires a tech.
I’ll check suction pressure, superheat, and subcooling, find and repair the leak, then recharge. Adding refrigerant without fixing the leak is a temporary fix, it’ll be low again in a season.

### Dirty Evaporator Coil

Oklahoma’s red dirt and cottonwood season are brutal on coils. A clogged evaporator coil blocks airflow and causes the system to short-cycle or ice over. Signs: weak airflow from vents, ice on coil or lines, system that cools for an hour then stops. Cause is almost always deferred filter changes, if the filter goes 6+ months, the dirt migrates to the coil.
Coil cleaning is a service call
, not a DIY fix, cleaning solution, proper technique, and coil fin integrity matter.

### Frozen Evaporator Coil

If you see ice on the indoor unit or the lines running to it: turn the system to FAN ONLY (no cooling) and let it thaw for 2-4 hours before calling. Running it frozen damages the compressor. Causes: low refrigerant, dirty coil, blocked return air, low outdoor temps (running AC when it’s below 60°F outside). Once it’s thawed, if it freezes again, call for service.

### Failed Capacitor

The capacitor starts the compressor and fan motors. In Oklahoma summer heat, capacitors fail more often than almost any other component, heat degrades them. Signs: the outdoor unit hums but the fan isn’t spinning, or the compressor doesn’t start. Sometimes you’ll hear a single click from the unit, then silence.
This is a $150-250 repair
in most cases, and I can usually confirm it on the same visit. Don’t let an HVAC company upsell you to a new system because a capacitor failed.

### Dirty Condenser Coil (Outdoor Unit)

The outdoor unit rejects heat. When the coil fins are coated with cottonwood, dead grass, and red dirt, which happens every spring and fall in Oklahoma, the system can’t reject heat efficiently. It runs longer, uses more power, and may short-cycle on high-pressure lockout.
You can spray the outdoor coil gently
from the inside out with a garden hose (low pressure, top to bottom). Don’t use a pressure washer, you’ll damage the fins.

### Compressor Failure

The compressor is the most expensive component in the system. Signs of compressor failure: the outdoor fan runs but the unit doesn’t cool at all, breaker trips repeatedly, grinding or clanking noises from the outdoor unit. Compressor replacement runs $1,200-2,500 depending on system size, at that cost, I’ll always discuss whether repair or replacement makes more financial sense. See our
Repair-or-Replace Calculator
.

## Furnace Not Heating

Check first:
Is the thermostat set to HEAT above current room temp? Is the filter clogged (most common cause of furnace lockout)? Is the gas on? Did the furnace reset itself? Most modern furnaces have a reset button on the burner assembly.

### Dirty Filter Causing Limit Switch Lockout

This is the #1 cause of furnace calls in Oklahoma. A clogged filter restricts airflow. The heat exchanger overheats. A safety device called the limit switch shuts the furnace off. The furnace may try to restart a few times, then lock out entirely.
Check your filter first.
If it’s gray and you can’t see light through it, replace it, then reset the furnace by turning the thermostat off for 30 seconds. If it fires and runs normally, the filter was the problem. If it locks out again, call me, the limit switch itself may have failed or the heat exchanger needs inspection.

### Igniter Failure

Modern furnaces use a hot surface igniter instead of a standing pilot. These glow orange-red when working. If the furnace calls for heat, you hear the draft inducer run, but no ignition, the igniter is likely cracked or failed. Signs: you can smell gas briefly then nothing, the inducer runs but no heat.
Igniter replacement is typically $180-300
and is one of the most common furnace repairs I do every winter.

### Flame Sensor / Control Board Issues

If the furnace lights, burns for 2-5 seconds, then shuts off and tries again repeatedly, that’s a flame sensor issue. The sensor is coated with oxidation and can’t verify flame. Sometimes cleaning it resolves the issue; sometimes replacement is needed ($120-250). Control board failures are less common but cause erratic behavior: igniter cycles, blower runs without heat, lockout codes on the display.

### No-Heat in an Oklahoma Ice Storm

Ice storms hit central Oklahoma hard, January 2023 and February 2021 knocked out heat for thousands of homes. If your furnace is in an unconditioned space (garage, crawlspace) and it’s below freezing: the condensate drain can freeze on high-efficiency furnaces, causing a pressure switch lockout. Do not crawl under the house or pour water near the furnace to thaw it. Turn the furnace off at the thermostat and call me. From outside, you can look at whether the combustion air and exhaust vents are covered in ice, because a blocked flue is a safety lockout. If the power is on and you still have no heat, call for emergency service, I prioritize no-heat calls in ice events.

## Heat Pump Problems

### Heat Pump Not Heating in Cold Weather

Air-source heat pumps lose efficiency below 35-40°F because they’re trying to pull heat from increasingly cold outdoor air. Below 20°F, most units are running at 60-70% of their rated capacity, the backup electric heat strip kicks in, which is expensive. If your heat pump is blowing lukewarm air in cold weather: that’s partially expected behavior. If it’s blowing cold air, check that it’s not stuck in cooling mode (reversing valve issue) and that the backup heat strip is working.

### Heat Pump Defrost Cycle

In cold weather, frost builds on the outdoor coil. The system periodically reverses to defrost, during this cycle it blows cooler air for 5-10 minutes and may look like it’s steaming. That’s normal. A heat pump that stays in defrost mode, or one where the outdoor unit is encased in solid ice that doesn’t clear, has a problem: failed defrost board, stuck reversing valve, or low refrigerant. Call for service.

### Geothermal vs. Air-Source in Oklahoma Winter

Geothermal doesn’t have these cold-weather problems. The ground at loop depth holds 58-62°F year-round in central Oklahoma, regardless of what’s happening above ground. A geothermal unit during a January ice storm performs at the same efficiency as it does in October. No defrost cycle. No backup heat strip. This is the core operational advantage of geothermal in Oklahoma’s climate.

## AC Leaking Water

The indoor evaporator coil produces condensation as it cools air. That water drains through a condensate line to a floor drain or outside. When it backs up, water leaks from the air handler.
This is the most common summer service call in Oklahoma.

Causes: the condensate drain clogs with algae, mold, and debris, especially in Oklahoma’s humid spring. What you can safely do: turn the system off at the thermostat if water is near the equipment, check the filter, and look for water from a safe distance, then call me. Please do not flush, vacuum or open the drain yourself, and do not reset the float switch. Clearing a drain does not guarantee against future blockage or leaks, and I am not responsible for water damage from an existing or later drain restriction, leak, backup or disconnected piping. If water is leaking from the coil itself, not the drain, that’s a frozen coil situation, see above.

## High Electric Bill from HVAC

Oklahoma summer electric bills get high. Here’s what drives HVAC-related spikes:

- Dirty filtersystem runs longer to move the same air. Replace monthly in summer.

- Dirty outdoor coilcan’t reject heat efficiently; system runs harder and longer.

- Low refrigerant10% undercharge = 20-30% efficiency loss. System runs constantly but barely cools.

- Duct leaks20-30% of cooled air lost to attic or crawlspace is typical in older Oklahoma homes. Manual J and duct testing can quantify this.

- Undersized systemequipment too small runs 100% duty cycle in July without ever reaching setpoint.

- Heat pump backup stripif your heat pump is using the backup electric heat strip in cold weather, bills spike. This is normal below 20°F but not above 35°F, above that temperature, the backup shouldn’t be running.

- Old equipmenta 15-year-old 10 SEER unit uses more electricity than a modern 16-18 SEER unit for the same cooling.

## Thermostat Issues

Before calling for any HVAC problem, verify the thermostat is actually calling for the right mode. Modern smart thermostats (Ecobee, Nest, Honeywell T6) have diagnostic modes that show whether the system is receiving the call for heat or cool. A thermostat that’s lost its schedule, or where the batteries have died, can look like a system problem.

If you have a smart thermostat and your HVAC isn’t responding: check the C-wire (24V common wire). Smart thermostats need continuous power, if they’re running on batteries only, some features don’t work reliably. I install thermostats as part of most service calls and can usually troubleshoot remotely if you describe what the screen shows. See
Thermostat Installation
for more.

## Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my AC running but not cooling the house?

Most common causes in Oklahoma: clogged air filter, low refrigerant from a leak, frozen evaporator coil, failed capacitor preventing compressor startup, or a dirty outdoor condenser coil. Check your filter first, if it’s gray and clogged, replace it. If the system still isn’t cooling after a clean filter, it needs a tech. Call
405-375-4822
for a $111 diagnostic. Repair work is quoted separately before approval.

Why won’t my furnace turn on in Oklahoma winter?

Most common: clogged filter causing the limit switch to shut it down for safety. Replace the filter first, then reset the furnace (thermostat off 30 seconds, back on). If that doesn’t fix it: igniter failure, flame sensor issue, or on high-efficiency furnaces, a frozen condensate drain in ice storm conditions. A furnace that won’t turn on in cold weather is a priority call,
405-375-4822
.

How do I know if my HVAC system is low on refrigerant?

Signs: the system runs constantly but can’t cool the house to setpoint, ice forms on the copper lines or indoor coil, and the air from vents is warmer than it should be after 20+ minutes of runtime. You can’t check refrigerant level yourself, it requires gauges and EPA 608 certification. I test suction pressure, superheat, and subcooling, find and repair the leak, then recharge to manufacturer specs. Adding refrigerant without fixing the leak is a temporary measure that doesn’t address the underlying problem.

Why is my heat pump blowing cold air in winter?

Air-source heat pumps lose efficiency in cold weather because they pull heat from cold outdoor air, there’s less heat available. Below 35°F you may feel lukewarm air (normal), and the backup electric heat strip should kick in. If the heat pump is blowing genuinely cold air: it may be stuck in cooling mode (reversing valve issue), the backup heat strip may have failed, or refrigerant may be low. Geothermal heat pumps don’t have this problem, they pull from 58-62°F ground temperature regardless of outdoor weather.

How much does an HVAC diagnostic cost in Kingfisher Oklahoma?

Residential service call is $210 flat: $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic. The diagnostic is part of the $210 total. I give you a written repair estimate before repair work starts. New-system estimates are free.

Why does my AC drain line keep clogging in Oklahoma?

Oklahoma’s humidity and heat create ideal conditions for algae and mold growth in condensate drain lines, especially in spring and early summer. The line runs from the air handler to a floor drain or outside. Prevention is a maintenance visit, where I clear condensate drains as a standard step. If it is already clogged, turn the system off at the thermostat if water is near the equipment and call me, rather than pouring anything down the line or vacuuming it. Clearing a drain does not guarantee against future blockage or leaks, and I am not responsible for water damage from an existing or later drain restriction, leak, backup or disconnected piping.

When is it too hot or cold to wait for an HVAC appointment?

In Oklahoma summer, 100°F+ with no AC is dangerous for elderly, children, and pets, that is an emergency call. In winter, below 35°F with no heat is a freeze-risk situation, especially in older homes without good insulation. I prioritize no-heat calls in winter and no-cool emergencies in peak summer heat. Call
405-375-4822
any time for emergency service. Emergency service is $309 flat plus repair. It is non-refundable and does not apply as a credit. Commercial overtime/after-hours is the commercial service rate plus $99, no money back. Safety comes first.

Why does my HVAC electric bill spike in Oklahoma summer?

Common causes: dirty air filter (replace monthly in summer), dirty outdoor coil (clean with garden hose spring and fall), low refrigerant, duct leaks losing 20-30% of conditioned air to the attic, or aging equipment running inefficiently. A 15-year-old 10 SEER unit uses more electricity than a modern 16-18 SEER unit for the same cooling. A One Visit Spring or Fall 360 at $199/yr often catches the dirty coil and filter issues that are driving the bill up.

### Still Not Sure What’s Wrong?

A $111 diagnostic covers the full system check, written report, and quote before I leave. Repair work is quoted separately before approval. 47 years of field experience, not a call center script.

# Homeowner HVAC Questions

Call 405-375-4822
Book Online
4.8 stars, 300+ Google reviews

Most HVAC questions start with the same issue: what is safe for a homeowner to check, and when should Hartzell’s handle it? Use this page as the safety-first answer hub.

Fast safety rule:
homeowners can observe settings, filters, registers, visible water, visible outdoor blockage, breaker position, error codes, sounds, and smells. Stop when the symptom involves repeated breaker trips, water near equipment, frozen lines, electrical smell, no airflow, geothermal alarms, combustion concerns, gas odor, smoke, carbon monoxide, exposed wiring, or flooding near electrical equipment.

## Direct Answer

You can safely check the thermostat mode and setpoint, filter condition, open supply and return registers, breaker position without repeated resetting, visible outdoor blockage, visible water from a safe distance, visible error codes, and system sounds or smells.

## When To Stop

Stop running the system and call Hartzell’s when the breaker trips again, airflow is gone, ice is on the coil or copper lines, water is near equipment, an electrical smell appears, or a fault code keeps coming back.

## Emergency Boundaries

For gas odor, smoke, fire, a carbon-monoxide alarm, exposed energized wiring, flooding near electrical equipment, or unsafe structural conditions, leave or call emergency services or the utility as appropriate before booking HVAC work.

## What A Professional Measures

A technician may measure airflow, static pressure, temperature split, electrical load, controls, coil condition, refrigerant circuit behavior, combustion safety, drain safety, or geothermal loop readings depending on the equipment.

## Pricing questions

How much does AC repair cost in Oklahoma?
At my shop the visit is $210 flat: $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic. The repair itself depends on the part. A capacitor and a compressor are very different numbers, so I price the repair in writing once I know what failed, before any work starts. The $111 does not come off the repair price.

How much does a new HVAC system cost in Oklahoma?
It depends on the size of the house, the ductwork, the equipment, and the efficiency you pick, so I do not quote it off a phone call. The estimate is free, I size the system with a load calculation, and you get the number in writing. Financing is available through five lenders.

How much is an HVAC tune-up in Oklahoma?
A standalone tune-up is $229, weekday 7am to 3pm. The One Visit Spring or Fall 360 plan is $199 a year, and the Spring and Fall 360 plan covers two visits for $360 a year. A geothermal tune-up is $348.

Does Hartzell’s charge a diagnostic fee?
Yes, $111, plus the $99 dispatch, for $210 flat on a residential call. There is always a dispatch fee and always a diagnostic fee, and I do not waive the diagnostic. New system estimates are free.

## Geothermal questions

Who installs geothermal heat pumps in central Oklahoma?
I do. I am IGSHPA accredited, a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, and a WaterFurnace and GeoStar dealer. I design the loop, size the system, and stand behind the install, and my OWRB-licensed driller does the drilling. For geothermal I travel across Oklahoma and into most of the states that border it. Call 405-375-4822.

How much does geothermal cost in Oklahoma?
The ground loop is the biggest cost driver, and tonnage, soil, access, and ductwork move it a long way, so I quote it after I see the property. The estimate is free. The cost drivers are laid out on my
geothermal cost page
.

Are there geothermal rebates in Oklahoma?
Some Oklahoma electric utilities and co-ops run geothermal rebate programs, and they change by utility and by year. Tell me your ZIP code and electric utility, and I will check the current official program before I quote you an amount. I do not guess on rebates.

How much is a geothermal diagnostic?
$348 flat, weekday or after hours. It covers loop pressure, refrigerant charge, desuperheater, controls, and heat exchanger, with a written report and quote before I leave.

## Service area questions

Does Hartzell’s serve Enid Oklahoma?
Yes. Enid is in Garfield County, one of the seven counties I run every day.

Does Hartzell’s serve Oklahoma City?
Yes, northwest Oklahoma City and the western side of the metro, plus Yukon, Mustang, Piedmont, Bethany, Warr Acres, and Edmond. Oklahoma and Canadian counties are both in my daily seven.

What counties does Hartzell’s cover?
Kingfisher, Canadian, Oklahoma, Garfield, Major, Logan, and Blaine, every day. Outside those seven I do not cover everyday heating and cooling. Geothermal is the exception.

Who is Hartzell’s Heat and Air?
I am Dave Hartzell, a Master HVAC technician with 47 years in HVAC/R. My shop is at 602 S Main St in Kingfisher and has been in business 15+ years. I am NATE certified and BBB A+ for 11 years, with 4.8 stars and

I’ve been installing
geothermal heat pumps
in central Oklahoma since the early 2000s. I’ve done horizontal loops on wheat-ground farms, vertical bores in tight Edmond lots, and pond loops on Canadian River properties. This guide covers everything I wish more homeowners knew before they called me: how the system actually works, what Oklahoma soil does to the numbers, real costs, every active rebate, and what the ROI looks like on a real central Oklahoma property.

## How a Geothermal Heat Pump Works

A geothermal heat pump doesn’t create heat by burning fuel. It moves heat that already exists in the ground. In winter, fluid circulates through a loop buried in the earth, absorbs the ground’s stable 58-62°F temperature, and carries that heat into your home. In summer, the process reverses: heat from your home is transferred into the cooler ground. The refrigeration cycle inside the unit amplifies this exchange, producing 3 to 5 units of heating or cooling energy for every 1 unit of electricity consumed. That ratio is called COP (Coefficient of Performance) or EER for cooling.

For context: a high-efficiency gas furnace is 96% efficient, it converts 96 cents of every dollar of gas into heat. A geothermal heat pump operating at COP 4.0 delivers 400% efficiency. Oklahoma’s ground temperature holds that number up year-round.

Key components:

- Ground loopHDPE pipe buried in trenches, bores, or ponds; lasts 50+ years

- Heat pump unitrefrigerant cycle inside the conditioned space; lasts 20-25 years

- Desuperheateroptional add-on that preheats domestic water at near-zero cost

- Air handler or hydronic distributiondelivers conditioned air or radiant heat

## Oklahoma Ground Temperatures by Region

The ground temperature at loop depth (8-20 ft for horizontal; 150-400 ft for vertical) is the single biggest factor in system performance. Oklahoma sits in a favorable band, warm enough that loops don’t exhaust in deep winter like they can in Minnesota, but not so warm that summer rejection becomes a problem.

Region

Mean Ground Temp (8-20 ft)

Soil Type

Loop Notes

Kingfisher / Northwest OKC

Clay / sandy loam
Good horizontal; some rock at 200+ ft

Enid / Garfield County

## Loop Types: Which One Works on Your Property

### Horizontal Loops (Most Common in Rural Oklahoma)

Trenches dug 6-8 feet deep, typically 400-600 ft of pipe per ton of capacity. Requires about 1,500-2,000 sq ft of yard per ton. On a 3-ton system that’s roughly 4,500 to 6,000 square feet, a bit over a tenth of an acre, of accessible, unobstructed ground. Cost is lower than vertical, trenching equipment is cheaper than drill rigs. Most Kingfisher County, Blaine County, and Major County properties qualify. I’ve run horizontal loops in wheat stubble fields, pastures, and large residential yards all over central Oklahoma.

### Vertical Loops (Suburban and City Lots)

Bores drilled 150-400 ft deep, with U-bend pipe inserted and grouted. One bore per ton, typically 4-6 bores on a residential system. Drill rigs are expensive, adds $1,500-3,000 per bore versus trenching. Required when horizontal isn’t an option: Edmond and Yukon lots, in-town Guthrie, historic district properties. Performance is excellent, deep ground temps are rock-stable year-round.

### Pond / Lake Loops

If you have a half-acre or larger pond at least 8 ft deep, coiled loop mats sink to the bottom. Most cost-effective installation method when the pond qualifies, no trenching or drilling. I’ve done pond loops on Canadian River-area properties in Canadian County. The pond must not freeze solid and must be large enough to handle thermal load without temperature creep.

### Standing Column Wells

Less common in Oklahoma, requires the right aquifer conditions. Water is drawn from a well, run through the heat exchanger, and returned to the same well. Not widely applicable in central Oklahoma’s geology, though there are pockets in Garfield County where it’s viable.

## Return on Investment: What Moves Your Numbers

I do not publish a payback table, because the real numbers turn on your utility rate, the fuel you are replacing, your loop type, and whether a rebate applies at your address. Tell me your ZIP code and electric utility, and I will look at your system and your bills and tell you what to expect.

The loop field outlasts the heat pump unit, typically 50+ years versus 20-25 for the indoor unit. On the second unit replacement, you’re only replacing the mechanical equipment, not re-digging the loop. That second cycle is where the long life of the loop really shows.

I go through this in more depth on
geothermal versus air-source heat pumps in Oklahoma
, including which one actually holds up in a cold snap.

## Geothermal vs. Conventional Heat Pump

Geothermal pulls heat from 55 degree ground loops year round, and
ENERGY STAR certified geothermal heat pumps
are on average over 45% more energy efficient than standard options. A conventional air heat pump fights 105 degree summer air and 10 degree winter air, so its efficiency drops when the weather is at its worst.

## The Installation Process: What to Expect

A typical geothermal install runs 3 to 5 days: day 1 loop drilling (4 to 6 bores, 200 to 300 feet each), day 2 trenching and header, day 3 indoor unit and ductwork tie-in, days 4 to 5 commissioning and flush.

- Site assessmentI walk the property, confirm utility territory, check soil conditions, measure lot dimensions, review existing ductwork. Free for new system estimates.

- Manual J load calculationI size the system to the actual heat loss/gain of your specific home. Oversizing a geothermal system is expensive and wastes rebate dollars.

- Loop designhorizontal layout or bore count determined by load calc and lot constraints. IGSHPA-standard design software, not guesswork.

- Utility rebate pre-applicationI handle the paperwork. Some utilities (CKenergy) require pre-approval before equipment is ordered.

- Loop field installationtrenching or drilling subcontractor I’ve worked with for years. HDPE pipe fusion-welded, pressure-tested before burial.

- Indoor unit installationClimateMaster or WaterFurnace unit set, refrigerant charged, controls wired. Desuperheater plumbed if included.

- Commissioning and testingloop pressure, water temperature delta, refrigerant charge, airflow across all zones. I don’t leave until the numbers are right.

- Rebate submissionI submit the required documentation to your utility. You receive the check directly, typically 4-8 weeks post-installation.

The brand matters less than the configuration.
Water-to-air versus water-to-water
changes what the system can do for radiant floors and domestic hot water.

## Brands I Install

I install ClimateMaster (GeoElite dealer), WaterFurnace, and Bosch geothermal units, plus Trane and Amana for conventional pairings.

ClimateMaster
I’m a GeoElite Dealer, their highest dealer tier. Manufactured in Norman, Oklahoma. Tranquility and Trilogy series cover residential applications from 1.5 to 6 tons. Some of the highest EER ratings in the industry.

WaterFurnace
Strong residential and commercial lineup. The 7 Series is their most efficient unit, variable-speed compressor with COP up to 5.3. Good fit for larger homes with hydronic distribution.

Bosch
Good value in the 2-3 ton residential market. SM series is straightforward to install and service. I use Bosch on budget-sensitive projects where ClimateMaster’s premium tier isn’t necessary.

## Frequently Asked Questions

How much does geothermal cost in Oklahoma?

Installed cost before rebates runs HCP quote depending on system size, loop type, and soil conditions. After CKenergy’s $2,000/ton
(Source:
CKenergy
)
rebate (available in Blaine, Canadian, Custer, and 7 other counties), a 3-ton horizontal system can come down to HCP quote. OG&E’s Oklahoma residential rebates are closed for 2026 and return in 2027, and OG&E does not list a geothermal rebate. Call
405-375-4822
for a free estimate specific to your property.

How much land do I need for a geothermal system in Oklahoma?

For a horizontal loop (the most common type in rural central Oklahoma), plan on 1,500-2,000 sq ft of accessible ground per ton of capacity. A 3-ton system needs roughly 4,500 to 6,000 square feet, a bit over a tenth of an acre, of unobstructed yard or field. Vertical loops require no yard space beyond the drill rig access, just a few bore locations, but cost more per bore. Pond loops are an option if you have a qualifying body of water. I assess every property before proposing a loop type.

What is the payback period for geothermal in Oklahoma?

It depends on your utility rate, the fuel you are replacing, your loop type and whether a rebate applies at your address, so I do not promise a payback year. The loop field lasts 50+ years, so after the first equipment cycle you’re only replacing the indoor unit, not re-digging. I put the installed price in writing at the free estimate, and you can weigh it against your own bills.

Does geothermal work well in Oklahoma winters?

Better than air-source heat pumps do. Air-source heat pump efficiency drops when it gets below 20-30°F outside because the outdoor coil has less heat to pull from cold air. Geothermal doesn’t care about outdoor temperature, the ground at loop depth holds 58-62°F year-round in central Oklahoma. A geothermal unit during a January ice storm runs at the same efficiency as it does in October. No auxiliary heat strip running. No defrost cycle.

Can I add a desuperheater for water heating?

Yes, and it’s one of the best value-adds in geothermal. A desuperheater captures waste heat from the refrigeration cycle and transfers it to a storage water heater. During the cooling season, it can provide near-free hot water, heat that would otherwise be rejected to the ground loop. How much that trims your water heating bill depends on how much hot water you use. I include desuperheater hookup in most residential installs. You still need a backup water heater element for peak demand or heating-season periods when the geo unit isn’t running as much.

What is IGSHPA accreditation and why does it matter for Oklahoma rebates?

IGSHPA is the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association, the industry’s certification body for geothermal design and installation. IGSHPA Accredited Installer means I’ve completed their formal training and passed testing on ground loop design, soil thermal analysis, and system commissioning. Several Oklahoma utility rebate programs (including CKenergy) require that the installer hold IGSHPA accreditation. If your contractor isn’t IGSHPA accredited, you may not qualify for the rebate even if the system is installed correctly.

How is geothermal maintained compared to a regular HVAC system?

The ground loop requires essentially no maintenance, HDPE pipe with no moving parts, buried and forgotten. The indoor unit needs the same annual maintenance as any heat pump: filter changes, coil check, refrigerant verification, blower motor inspection, condensate line clear. Because there’s no outdoor coil exposed to weather, grass clippings, hail, and Oklahoma red dirt, geothermal units tend to stay cleaner and have fewer refrigerant issues over time. I offer geothermal-specific maintenance plans starting at $360/yr. See
Geothermal Maintenance Plans

## Geothermal Installation Questions

How much does geothermal installation cost in Oklahoma?

Geothermal installed pricing is built from the current HCP pricebook after load calculation, loop design, ductwork, electrical, permits, and site review. Existing-loop replacements and new-loop installations are different jobs. Utility incentive amounts vary by provider and address, so I verify the primary utility source before quoting savings. Payback depends on your utility rate and the system you are replacing, so I will look at your system and your bills and tell you what to expect. Call
405-375-4822
for a free site-specific estimate.

What Oklahoma utility rebates are available for geothermal heat pumps?

CKenergy publishes geothermal incentive details for qualifying residential projects. Other Oklahoma utility dollar amounts need primary utility confirmation before we quote them. Eligibility depends on your utility provider. We’ll review your utility and project details at
405-375-4822
.

How long does a geothermal heat pump installation take in Oklahoma?

Most residential installs take two to four days total. The loop field drilling or trenching is usually done in one day by the loop contractor. I then install the indoor unit and make all the connections. From your first call to a running system, plan on one to two weeks to schedule everything. I coordinate the whole project so you don’t have to manage multiple contractors.

Does geothermal work well in Oklahoma’s climate?

Geothermal works extremely well here. The ground temperature in Central Oklahoma stays around 60 to 65 degrees year-round. That stable ground temperature is what geothermal uses as its heat exchange medium, which is far more efficient than the 100-degree summer air or the 20-degree winter air that conventional equipment has to fight against. Oklahoma’s climate is actually ideal for geothermal performance.

What is IGSHPA accreditation and why does it matter for geothermal installation?

IGSHPA is the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association. Their Accredited Installer certification requires specific training in loop field design, system sizing, and installation standards. It matters because most HVAC contractors have not completed this training. A poorly designed loop field will underperform for the life of the system. I’m IGSHPA Accredited and a ClimateMaster GeoElite Dealer, so I design and install these systems the right way.

How I learned it

## Diagnosed rightthe first time

I spent 12 years at Sammy’s Heat, Air & Sheet Metal in Watonga before I opened Hartzell’s about 15 years ago. Sammy ran a Carrier dealership, and he trained me to diagnose before I ever touched a wrench: find the root cause, not just the symptom, and be straight with the customer about what you found. That is still how I run AC calls in Kingfisher, Hennessey, Watonga, Okarche, Dover, Loyal, Cashion and every town in between.

My techs are paid a percentage of the completed invoice, so they have a personal stake in getting it right the first time, not in guessing wrong and coming back. Every repair carries my 6-month labor guarantee on the part I replaced. Parts carry their manufacturer's warranty, and I buy parts with a 1-year warranty whenever one is available. If that part or my work on it fails within 6 months, I come back and fix it at no charge. A different part failing, or a leak in a different spot, is a new problem and a regular service call. Plenty of my customers are on their second and third system with me.

From my own job records:
since 2017, when my current job system starts, I have 2,200+ completed jobs with a Kingfisher address, 450+ in Okarche, 280+ in Hennessey, 200+ each in Watonga and Dover, 140+ in Loyal and 100+ in Cashion. The years before 2017 are not in that system, so the real count is higher.

When replacing is the right call, I size the new system with an
ACCA Manual J
load calculation, not by copying the tonnage on the old unit.

The full checklist

## What I checkbefore I give you a price

I work through the system in order: indoor unit first, then outdoor, then electrical and controls.

- Indoor unitEvaporator coil for freeze-up, dirt or damage. Blower motor and wheel: speed, amperage and airflow. Condensate drain for clogs and overflow risk. Filter and return air restriction. Refrigerant line temperatures, supply against return.

- Outdoor unitCondenser coil for dirt, bent fins and blocked airflow. Condenser fan motor and blade, amps and spin. Refrigerant pressures on both the high and low side. Compressor amp draw against its rated value. Electronic leak detection at the coil and fittings.

- Electrical and controlsCapacitor start and run microfarad readings. Contactor pitting, coil voltage and contact gap. Disconnect and breaker, fuse size and heat damage. Thermostat wiring and the call sequence. Safety controls: high pressure, low pressure and the float switch.

- Trane communicating systemsAs a Trane Comfort Specialist (TCS SELECT) dealer I can read ComfortLink II fault codes on communicating Trane equipment that most shops cannot, and I carry common Trane and RunTru parts on the truck.

Blower motor giving out?
Most repair calls end up at the blower sooner or later. Old PSC motors run hot and burn out. You can put the same part back, or step up to a variable-speed ECM motor that runs quieter, uses less power and lasts longer. An OEM PSC replacement runs $1,912, a standard PSC blower motor $2,187, and an Azure ECM variable-speed upgrade $2,304 to $2,438.

Frequently asked

## Straightanswers

How much does AC repair cost in Kingfisher, Oklahoma?
The service call is $210 flat: $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic. The repair itself is priced in writing before I start, and most common repairs run $150 to $850. The diagnostic is not credited toward the repair.

Why is my AC running but not cooling?
Most often a dirty filter, a frozen coil, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failed capacitor. I rule out the simple things first, then measure pressures and airflow to find the real cause.

How fast can you get here?
Same day where the schedule allows, and no-cool calls go first. Call and I will tell you the next open time straight rather than promise a window I cannot hold.

What does it cost after hours?
$309: $198 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic, for residential AC, heating and heat pumps. It is not refundable and is not credited toward the repair.

Can you work on an older R-22 system?
Yes. On an R-22 unit I look at condition and cost of ownership so you can choose between a repair now and a planned replacement later.

Do you work on geothermal in Kingfisher too?
Yes, and most of my geothermal work is right here. A geothermal diagnostic is $348 flat, weekday or after hours.
What that visit covers
.
Do you guarantee your AC repairs?
Yes. Every repair carries my 6-month labor guarantee on the part I replaced. Parts carry their manufacturer's warranty, and I buy parts with a 1-year warranty whenever one is available. If it's the same part, the same leak or my work, the callback is free. If it's a different part, it's a normal service call.
What do you check on an AC diagnostic?
The indoor coil, blower, drain, filter and line temperatures; the outdoor coil, fan, refrigerant pressures, compressor amps and leaks; and the capacitor, contactor, breaker, thermostat wiring and safety controls.
Should I replace my blower motor with an ECM?
If the old PSC motor failed, an ECM variable-speed upgrade runs quieter and lasts longer. It is $2,304 to $2,438 installed against $2,187 for a standard PSC motor.
How long has Hartzell’s been fixing AC in Kingfisher?
My shop at 602 S Main St has been open 15+ years, and I have 47 years in the trade. My job records since 2017 show 2,200+ completed jobs with a Kingfisher address, and the years before that are not in the system.

What I find in Kingfisher

## The calls I actually runin Kingfisher

- Systems put in when the house was builtKingfisher has a lot of 1990s and 2000s equipment still running on original parts.

- Undersized returnsPlenty of homes here move air through one small return, which is why a bedroom never keeps up.

- Red dirt in the condenserWind out of the south packs the outdoor coil, and a packed coil cannot shed heat.

- Attic ductwork giving upFlex duct in a Kingfisher attic bakes for twenty summers, then the joints let go.

- Water heaters on borrowed timeI see the same tanks going out across town, usually right after the first cold snap.

- Commercial coolers and rooftopsRestaurants and shops here run on equipment nobody looks at until it is down.

## How a Kingfisher callworks

- No windshield timeMost of town is inside ten minutes of my bay door, so a parts run does not turn into another appointment.

- Parts on the shelf, not on orderCapacitors, contactors, motors, ignitors and the common Trane and Mitsubishi parts live in my shop here.

- I know the housesSecond and third systems for the same families, so I have seen what is in the crawlspace before I open it.

In town you are on Kingfisher’s own city system. Out in the county most places are on Cimarron Electric, which is headquartered right here. The two have different rebate programs, so I check yours before anybody quotes a number.

Kingfisher is the county seat and it is where I have run this shop for 15 years. I am not building a service area map to look bigger than I am, I live and work in the middle of it. Frequently asked

## Straight answers,Kingfisher

How much does a service call cost in Kingfisher?
$210 flat: $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic. The $111 is not credited toward the repair, and you get a written repair price before I start. After hours is $309.
How fast can you get here in Kingfisher?
Most of town is inside ten minutes of my shop at 602 S Main. Same day where the schedule allows, and no-cool and no-heat calls go first.
What HVAC problems are most common in older Kingfisher homes?
Undersized returns, attic flex duct that has come apart, and outdoor coils packed with red dirt. Those three cover most of the no-cool calls I run in town.
Is geothermal realistic for a Kingfisher County home?
Often yes. There is usually room for a horizontal loop out in the county, and I size the loop myself. The diagnostic is $348 flat and a weekend evaluation is free.
Which utility am I on, and does it matter?
In town you are on the city system, out in the county it is usually Cimarron Electric. It matters because their rebate programs are different. Tell me your address and I will check the current program before anybody quotes an amount.
Do you work on commercial equipment in Kingfisher?
Yes. Light commercial up to fifteen tons is $389 flat, day or night, and it is bookable online. Bigger equipment gets sized on site.

## Straightanswers

How much does a geothermal tune-up cost in Oklahoma?
The geothermal tune-up is $348. That is a flat number, weekday or after hours.
Is a geothermal tune-up the same as a geothermal diagnostic?
No. They are two different visits that cost the same $348. A tune-up is scheduled maintenance. A diagnostic is me chasing a problem. You book one or the other and pay the same flat number.
Does the geothermal diagnostic fee get credited toward the repair?
No. The $348 is not credited and not refunded. What you get for it is a full performance audit and a written report before I leave.
What does after-hours geothermal service cost?
Geothermal is $348 flat, day or night. It is never quoted at the $309 emergency rate, so you have one number to hold onto.
How often should a geothermal system be serviced?
At least once a year, twice if it works hard in both seasons. The loop, the flow center and the desuperheater never get checked on a standard AC tune-up.

## The Story

### It started with a flashlight.

My dad was an air-conditioning man, and before I was old enough to turn a wrench I was the one holding the flashlight for him on service calls. That is where this trade started for me. I grew up watching my father work with his hands, and I wanted to do what he did. By age ten I was picking up trash at Lee Hartzell Electric in Woodward, Oklahoma, not because I had to, but because that is where my family worked and that is what you did. By thirteen I was an apprentice electrician. Junior and senior year of high school I was on a work-release program, out at noon, leading a four-man crew of adults who were older than me in every way except experience.

Those men drove. I ran the work. A lot of them went on to build solid careers of their own. I still think about them.

Dave Hartzell, Owner, Hartzell’s Heat & Air. Kingfisher, Oklahoma.

### From Woodward to Watonga, and everything that came with it.

After Autry Technology Center in Enid, one of Oklahoma’s finest vo-tech schools, I discovered HVAC was not just a trade. It was the thing I was built for. I went on to Oklahoma State University, where I met two men who would become lifelong friends: Sammy Tomlinson and John Thomas. All three of us went on to build HVAC companies rooted in the same values. John Thomas founded Thomas Heat, Air & Refrigeration down in Roff. Sammy built Sammy’s Heat, Air & Sheet Metal in Watonga, where he had been serving the community since 1973.

I spent twelve years at Sammy’s. Twelve years learning from Sammy and his parents, not just about systems and equipment, but about the people of this region. How they think. What they care about. What it means to shake someone’s hand and actually mean it. I sold Carrier systems to Kingfisher-area families for over a decade. Some of those families are now on their third system. Their children are calling me for the first time.

On the job. I have been doing this work in central Oklahoma for 47 years.

Still doing it right, every time. Same standard from day one.

### My first shop, before Hartzell’s Heat & Air: Woodward, 1989.

In 1989, more than two decades before I started Hartzell’s Heat & Air, I opened Hartzell’s Refrigeration in Woodward. That was my first shop with my name on the door. It is where I earned my first city HVAC license and learned what it meant to carry payroll, warranty, and reputation on my own. Old customers in northwest Oklahoma still recognize the 580-334-2814 number from that era. Watonga came after, then Sprint, then Kingfisher. The work has always been the same: do it right, sign your name to it, stand behind it.

### He also fought fires for five years.

During my years in Watonga, I served as a volunteer firefighter. Five years of showing up when things went wrong for other people, not for a paycheck, but because that is who I am. That did not change when I came home to Kingfisher.

### Then Sprint called.

I spent seven years as the onsite engineer for Sprint, managing what would become the largest project in the company’s history, a classified national infrastructure build that required the kind of precision most contractors never face. The project involved a $20 million infrastructure upgrade with an additional $14 million component. I delivered it under budget, ahead of schedule, and with zero FCC outages on a live network.

Every piece of equipment on that project was commissioned before I left the site. Every system had an operating manual, a maintenance manual, and an identifier tag. Every door. Every fixture. Sprint asked me to name my price. I gave them a job done right instead.

“The man who helped build the infrastructure that could locate your cell phone to within one foot is the same man who will size your home’s HVAC system to within one ton, and stand behind it.”

Late night on the roof of a classified national infrastructure facility, Sprint’s largest project in company history. The project ran around the clock.

### Hartzell’s was the next step. Not a detour, the destination.

When I founded Hartzell’s Heat & Air, I named it after the place where I first learned what work was, Lee Hartzell Electric, Woodward, Oklahoma. I brought with me everything Sammy taught me, everything my father taught me, and a standard of documentation and accountability most HVAC companies in this state have never been asked to meet. My daughter Shelby runs operations today. When I make a commitment to a customer, Shelby is the one who makes sure it happens.

From the job site to the front office

That little girl in the hard hat is Shelby, on my Sprint job site in Fort Worth back when I was running a hardened national-carrier switch. She grew up around this work. Today she runs Hartzell’s Heat and Air.

## Why My Work Is Different

A lot of HVAC companies pay their technicians by the hour. I do not. My technicians are compensated based on the quality and completeness of the work they complete, which means the person in your home has a direct personal stake in getting it right. There are no incentives here to run up hours, oversell equipment, or recommend repairs that are not needed. The incentive is to solve the problem correctly the first time and leave a customer who is glad they called.

That is how my people are rewarded, and it is how this company has maintained a 4.8-star rating across 300+ Google reviews.

My technicians are paid to solve problems, not to spend time.
That difference shows up in your home every single time.

What certifications does Hartzell’s Heat & Air hold?

I hold a Master HVAC License (#00115936), NATE certification, IGSHPA Accreditation for geothermal, Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer status, Trane Comfort Specialist (TCS SELECT) dealer status, and ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer status. I am also a BBB A+ Accredited Business and ACCA member.

Is Hartzell’s a locally owned company?

Yes. Hartzell’s Heat & Air is 100% locally owned and operated. I work in the field personally on service calls and installs. This is not a franchise or national chain.

What is the 6-Month Labor Guarantee?

Every repair carries my 6-month labor guarantee on the part I replaced, and every system I install carries my 1-year parts and labor warranty, and geothermal and Trane systems rated 17 SEER and up get 2 years of labor. Parts carry their manufacturer's warranty, and I buy parts with a 1-year warranty whenever one is available. If it's the same part, the same leak or my work, the callback is free. If it's a different part, it's a normal service call. That is my commitment to doing the job right the first time.

Does Hartzell’s Heat & Air serve Spanish-speaking customers?

Sí, Se Habla Español. I serve the Spanish-speaking community throughout Kingfisher and central Oklahoma. Call

HVAC Sizing Estimator
How many tons does your Oklahoma home need?

The most common mistake I see is systems that are the wrong size. Oversized systems short-cycle and leave your house humid. Undersized systems run constantly and never keep up. I’ve been doing Manual J load calculations for 47 years, and sizing is something I do in your home, not on a web form. Enter your details below and I will show you what I check and how to get a free in-home sizing check.

This page does not calculate a system size. Real sizing takes a Manual J load calculation that accounts for your home’s envelope, ductwork, orientation, internal heat gains and local design temperatures. Do not size by square footage alone.

## HVAC Sizing in Oklahoma: What You Need to Know

Oklahoma sits in Climate Zone 3/4, mixed-humid, with brutal summers (design temperature 99°F in Kingfisher) and cold enough winters that you need real heating capacity. There is no honest shortcut for sizing here, because the answer changes dramatically based on your home’s envelope. I have seen two homes with the same floor area in the same neighborhood need systems half a ton apart because of insulation and window differences.

The industry standard sizing method is Manual J. It accounts for your home’s exact dimensions, ceiling heights, insulation values, window U-factors, orientation, internal heat gains (appliances, people, lighting), ductwork efficiency, and local design temperatures. I run a heat load calculation before I size a system because guessing wastes your money one way or another. For a home that is an ACCA Manual J, and for an apartment I run it for each unit. For a shop, office, daycare or barbershop I use a commercial load calculation that counts people, lighting, equipment and the fresh air the space requires.

What happens if my HVAC system is oversized?

An oversized system short-cycles, it cools or heats too fast, shuts off, and never runs long enough to remove humidity. In Oklahoma’s humid summers, this leaves your house cold but clammy. Short-cycling also wears out the compressor faster. Most contractors oversize because a bigger unit makes customers feel confident. The right size is the one that runs the longest cycles at design conditions.

What happens if my system is undersized?

It runs constantly and cannot maintain temperature on the hottest or coldest days. Your energy bills are high, the equipment wears out faster, and you are uncomfortable. On a 100°F Oklahoma day, an undersized system will fall behind by noon and never recover.

Can I size my system by square footage?

No. Floor area alone cannot size a system, because insulation, windows, ceiling height, sun exposure and ductwork move the answer more than size does. I run a heat load calculation before I size a system. For a home that is an ACCA Manual J, and for an apartment I run it for each unit. For a shop, office, daycare or barbershop I use a commercial load calculation that counts people, lighting, equipment and the fresh air the space requires. Call 405-375-4822 for a free in-home sizing check.

How do I know what size system I have now?

Look at the model number on your outdoor unit. Most manufacturers encode the nominal capacity in the model number. Common codes: 018=1.5 ton, 024=2 ton, 030=2.5 ton, 036=3 ton, 042=3.5 ton, 048=4 ton, 060=5 ton. The number is BTU/hr divided by 1,000. Divide by 12 to get tons. If you cannot find it, call me and I can usually identify it from the model number over the phone.

Should I oversize my system to be safe?

No. This is the single most common mistake contractors make, and most of them know better. Oversizing does not give you a buffer. It gives you a humidity problem and a shorter equipment life. Proper sizing for Oklahoma means your system should struggle slightly on the absolute hottest 1% of days. That is how Manual J works. If it always keeps up easily, it is probably too big.

Does geothermal use the same sizing rules?

Same Manual J process, but geothermal systems are sized differently because they handle both heating and cooling efficiently. The loop field is also sized to match the system. I run a heat load calculation and a complete ground loop design before I size a geothermal system. This is part of what IGSHPA accreditation covers.

Direct answer:
geothermal is worth evaluating when the home’s load, ductwork, loop option, equipment condition, utility rules, and budget line up. I built this hub so you can pick the next useful step without me treating every call like a replacement sale. I also pulled ten years of
Oklahoma electricity rate history
from the federal filings, so you can see what power has actually done around here.

## Cost

## What a sound decision needs

- A load and ductwork review, not a tonnage guess.

- A realistic loop design and access plan.

- Operating measurements for an existing system.

- Current written pricing, incentive, financing, maintenance, and warranty documents before relying on a changing claim.

How a ground loop moves heat between your house and the ground

January air: about 10°F

Heat comes up out of the ground

July air: about 105°F

Heat goes down into the ground

Ground: 60°F

every day of the year

The air swings from 10 degrees in January to 105 in July. At loop depth the ground sits near 60 all year, so that is what my systems trade heat with instead of the air. The fluid in the loop never stops moving: in winter it carries heat up into the house, in summer it carries heat out of the house and puts it in the ground. The U.S. Department of Energy explains the same principle in its
Energy Saver guide to geothermal heat pumps
.

## Loop types for Oklahoma properties

The loop is the part of a geothermal system you cannot see and cannot easily change later, so I pick it from the property, not from habit. Here is how the four loop types line up on Oklahoma land.

Loop type
Best fit
What I check
Common mistake

Horizontal closed loop
Rural acreage, open yards, new construction, farm and shop properties.
Trench access, soil moisture, loop length, header route, equipment location, and how the yard gets put back.
Underestimating yard disruption, or trenching where a building or fence is planned.

Vertical closed loop
Town lots, tight yards, mature landscaping, sites without room to trench.
Drill rig access, bore depth and count, grout, utility markings, setbacks, and manifold location.
Quoting before drilling access and bore count are realistic.

Pond or lake loop
Properties with a suitable private pond.
Depth, water level through a dry summer, distance to the mechanical room, and protection from damage.
Assuming any pond is deep or stable enough.

Open loop (well water)
Rural sites with enough clean, reliable water and a place to discharge it.
Water quantity, mineral content, scaling and corrosion risk, pump cost, and discharge rules.
Ignoring water quality and the long-term maintenance it brings.

I design the loop and size the system. The drilling itself is done by my OWRB-licensed driller. The side-by-side detail is on
horizontal vs vertical vs pond loops
, and well water gets its own page on
water quality and open-loop risk
. Heating a shop or barn instead of a house changes the load and the loop, see
geothermal for shops and barns
.

## What I measure before I recommend anything

- Home load and ductwork.ACCA Manual Jload, duct size, static pressure, airflow, return path, and whether the house can actually use the capacity being quoted.

- Loop and water side.Loop pressure, pump operation, entering and leaving water temperature, flow in GPM, freeze protection, and any sign of a leak.

- Heat pump operation.Electrical draw, control calls, blower operation, coil condition, refrigerant-circuit behavior, the desuperheater when there is one, and the manufacturer’s targets.

- Money path.Cash, financing, what the utility program will actually document for your address, and whether waiting is smarter than forcing a project this year.

## Loops outlast the equipment

The question I hear most after price is how long the loop lasts. Here is my answer from my own records, not a brochure: across 700+ geothermal jobs I have not replaced a single loop field. I have loops in the ground that are on their third generation of heat pump equipment. Same pipe, third unit. When I talk about a geothermal replacement, I mean replacing the unit. The loop stays.

Some numbers from my own records, which start in 2017 when my current job system went in: 250+ geothermal customers and 300+ geothermal systems, with plenty of homes running more than one. Across 727 completed geothermal jobs, loops were flushed or re-pressurized 169 times, condensate drains came up 163 times, refrigerant charge 115, loop pumps and flow centers 48, and compressors 13. The full table is on
the real disadvantages of geothermal
.

Slinky loop trenches in red dirt, Kingfisher County.
A flow center and loop pumps. The pumps wear, the pipe does not.
A ClimateMaster Tranquility I installed in northwest Oklahoma.
A loop pump module upgrade in Piedmont.

What does wear is the stuff that moves or collects. The most common work I do on geothermal systems is flushing and re-pressurizing loops, because air works its way in over time, and clearing condensate drains. After that come refrigerant charge, loop pumps and flow centers, thermostats, and capacitors. Compressor failures are rare. If you are weighing an older system,
whether an existing loop can be reused
is usually the first question worth answering.

## What geothermal work costs before the quote

I will not put an install price on a webpage, because the loop drives the cost and I have not seen your ground yet. What I can pin down is what it costs to get a real answer.

If the upfront number is the thing standing in your way, there is a lease path: nothing upfront, 120 even payments, and the maintenance and repairs ride inside the payment. The approved examples run about $225 a month on a $25,000 system and about $332 a month on a $40,000 system, illustrations rather than quotes. I broke it down on
what geothermal costs per month
, and compared it against buying on my
geothermal lease page
.

Your payment depends on the total cost of your job. These are examples, not a quote. Disclaimer: Labor, filters, and preventative maintenance are all subject to terms and limitations included in the contract. Inflation-Proof Protection is based on expected inflation costs on services covered under the contract for the ten-year term. Interest Paid is estimated on an annual percentage rate expressed as a yearly percentage and does not imply that the Monthly Payment is exclusive of lease costs related to the geothermal system.

There is an end-of-term buyout on the Full Coverage Geothermal Plan, so $0 upfront does not mean you own the system. Palmetto owns it during the lease, and I am an Approved Palmetto Partner.

- Geothermal diagnostic, $348 flat.Weekday or after hours, the same number. Geothermal does not take the $309 emergency rate. That $348 covers loop pressure, refrigerant charge, desuperheater, controls, and heat exchanger, and you get a written report and quote before I leave.

- Geothermal tune-up, $348.A separate product from the diagnostic, priced the same on purpose.

- Estimate on a new system, free.No truck charge to quote a replacement.

Geothermal maintenance plans.
Geo One Visit Spring or Fall 360 is $360 a year, Geo Spring and Fall 360 is $428 a year, and Geo Full Year 360 is $499 a year. The plan names changed in 2026, so an older quote may list a name I no longer sell. Details are on my
geothermal maintenance plans page
.

I am
IGSHPA
accredited and a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, which is the reason I can measure a loop instead of guessing at it.

## Commercial geothermal

I do commercial ground-source work as well as residential. A light commercial diagnostic up to 15 tons is $389 flat, day or night, and you can book it online. Above 15 tons I size the equipment on site and price it from there, because a building’s load is not something to guess at over the phone.

## Where I install and service geothermal

My everyday heating and air trucks run seven counties: Kingfisher, Canadian, Oklahoma, Garfield, Major, Logan, and Blaine. Geothermal is different. For geothermal I travel across Oklahoma and into most of the states that border it, depending on the customer and the project. If you are in Tulsa, Coweta, or anywhere else in Oklahoma and you want a geothermal install, repair, or tune-up, call
405-375-4822
and tell me where the property is.

## Questions Oklahoma homeowners ask me about geothermal

How much does a geothermal diagnostic cost in Oklahoma?
$348 flat, weekday or after hours. Geothermal is the exception to my emergency rate, so it is never quoted at $309. The $348 covers loop pressure, refrigerant charge, desuperheater, controls, and heat exchanger, with a written report and quote before I leave.

How much does geothermal heat pump installation cost in Oklahoma?
I will not put a number on that without seeing the property. The ground loop is the single biggest cost driver, and tonnage, soil, access, and existing ductwork move it a long way. The estimate on a new system is free, so the honest answer is to let me look and then quote it in writing.

Do you install geothermal in Tulsa or Coweta?
Yes, depending on the customer and the project. My everyday trucks run seven counties, but geothermal jobs have taken me as far as Lawton, Blackwell, Broken Bow, and Thomas. Call
405-375-4822
with your town and what you have, and I will tell you straight whether the trip makes sense.

Do you do commercial geothermal in Oklahoma?
Yes. Light commercial up to 15 tons is a flat $389 diagnostic, day or night, bookable online. Above 15 tons I size the equipment on site and price the work from there.

Is a geothermal tune-up the same as a geothermal diagnostic?
No, they are two different products that happen to cost the same $348. A tune-up is scheduled maintenance on a system that is working. A diagnostic is what I run when something is wrong or when you want a full performance audit before deciding on repair or replacement.
How much land do I need for a geothermal loop in Oklahoma?
Less than most people think. Acreage usually points to a horizontal loop, a tight town lot usually points to vertical bores, and a good pond changes the math again. I check access, soil, and water before I pick.

How long does a geothermal ground loop last?
Longer than the equipment. In 700+ geothermal jobs I have not replaced a loop field, and some of my loops are on their third heat pump. The parts that wear are the ones that move, like the loop pump.
How many geothermal systems has Hartzell’s worked on?
My records since 2017 show 250+ geothermal customers and 300+ geothermal systems across 700+ geothermal jobs. The years before 2017 are not in that system, so the real count is higher.
Do you do free consultations on the weekend?
Yes. Saturday and Sunday geothermal consultations are free. I look at the house, the yard and what is heating it now, size the system and walk you through the payment, at no charge and with no obligation. For geothermal I travel statewide, as availability allows. Call
405-375-4822
and I will tell you what weekend time is open.
Can I still have geothermal installed before Thanksgiving?
If we start now, the loop work and the install still fit before Thanksgiving, where the schedule allows. Geothermal takes longer than swapping a furnace because the loop goes in first, so the earlier I see the property, the easier it is to hold a date. I will tell you straight what is realistic once I look at the project.

## Geothermal measurement guides

Use these when you are trying to make sense of loop pressure, water temperatures, flow, or a fault code:

- How to read EWT, LWT, GPM, PSI and Delta T

- How to calculate COP on a geothermal heat pump

- ClimateMaster Tranquility 30 fault codes

- How to tell whether a loop field is too small

## What not to trust in a geothermal quote

- A savings or payback number that was not built from your house, your utility rate, your existing equipment, and your loop choice.

- A rebate amount that your utility’s current program and your service address do not both support.

- A geothermal diagnosis that skipped loop pressure, water temperatures, flow, airflow, and electrical readings.

- A troubleshooting answer online that walks you into the panel, refrigerant, pumps, antifreeze, wells, or loop piping. Those are jobs for a licensed tech. If something looks wrong, seewhen to shut the system downand call me.

Connected thermostat features are not a universal maintenance-plan benefit. Compatible equipment and any connected-system features have to be confirmed by the office for the specific system.

### What do the Spring and Fall 360 and Full Year 360 add over the one-visit plan?

The One Visit Spring or Fall 360 is the visit itself, with no repair discount. Spring and Fall 360 adds a second visit, 10% off repairs up to $300 per repair, and two air filters, one installed at each visit. Full Year 360 keeps all of that, covers your air filters all year (call the office and pick them up at the shop), and waives the $198 emergency dispatch up to two times per plan year. You still pay the $111 diagnostic on those calls, so an emergency costs a Full Year 360 member $111 instead of $309.

### Why should I get an HVAC tune-up every year in Oklahoma?

Oklahoma summers regularly pass 100 degrees and winter cold snaps drop into the single digits, so the system works hard at both ends. A tune-up catches small problems like a weak capacitor, a dirty coil, or a slow drain before they turn into a breakdown on the worst day of the year, and it gives you a written record of the system’s condition. A standalone tune-up is $229, weekday 7am to 3pm. Two standalone tune-ups a year are $458, which is why the Spring and Fall 360 at $360 usually makes more sense.

## Service Calls and Pricing

### What is the dispatch fee and what does it cover?

The dispatch fee is $99. It pays for getting a qualified technician and a stocked truck to your door. There is always a dispatch fee and always a diagnostic fee. The exceptions are the maintenance visit already included in a plan, a free estimate on a new system, and the Full Year 360 emergency dispatch waiver.

### What is the diagnostic fee?

The diagnostic is $111. It pays for the time it takes to find the real cause instead of guessing at a part. A residential service call is $210 flat: $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic. The diagnostic is not credited back against the repair, and I do not waive the diagnostic. Once I know what failed, you get the repair price in writing before any work starts.

### How much is an after-hours emergency call?

$309 flat: $198 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic, non-refundable. That covers residential and standard AC, heating, and heat pumps. Geothermal is the exception at $348 flat any hour, and light commercial up to 15 tons is $389 flat day or night.

### How much does it cost to diagnose two systems in one visit?

A dual-system diagnostic is $268 flat for two units in the same visit.

### Do you give free estimates on a new system?

Yes. Estimates on new systems and replacements are free, with no truck charge. I size the replacement with a load calculation instead of copying the tonnage off the old unit, and you get a written quote before any work begins.

### Can you give me a repair price over the phone?

Not an honest one. A bad capacitor and a failed compressor can look the same from the thermostat. That is what the diagnostic is for.

## Repair or Replace

### My system is older. How do I know whether to repair or replace it?

A common rule of thumb: when a repair costs more than about half of what a replacement would, and the equipment is more than 10 or 12 years old, replacement usually deserves a serious look. Other signs are repeat breakdowns, rising bills, a system that cannot keep up on the hottest days, and an older system still running R-22, which is no longer produced, so every recharge gets more expensive. I will tell you when a repair makes sense. It is your money, not a sales quota.

### What if the same part fails again after a repair?

Every repair carries my 6-month labor guarantee on the part I replaced. Parts carry their manufacturer's warranty, and I buy parts with a 1-year warranty whenever one is available. If it's the same part, the same leak or my work, the callback is free. If it's a different part, it's a normal service call.

### What refrigerant do new systems use?

New residential equipment has moved to lower-impact A2L refrigerants, mainly R-454B and R-32, depending on the brand. The refrigerant is printed on every equipment nameplate, so you can always check what you have.

## Geothermal Heat Pumps

### How does a geothermal heat pump work?

A geothermal (ground-source) heat pump moves heat between your house and the ground through a loop of buried pipe. A few feet down, the ground stays at a much steadier temperature than the outdoor air, so in winter the system pulls heat out of the ground and in summer it puts heat back. Because it moves heat instead of making it, a geothermal system commonly delivers several units of heating or cooling for every unit of electricity it uses. The
U.S. Department of Energy
has a plain-language overview.

### Are you qualified to install geothermal?

Yes. I am IGSHPA accredited, a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, and a WaterFurnace and GeoStar dealer. I design the loop, size the system, and stand behind the install. Water well and geothermal bore drilling is done by my OWRB-licensed driller.

### How long does a geothermal system last?

The loop outlasts the equipment. Across 700+ geothermal jobs I have not replaced a single loop field, and I have loops in the ground on their third generation of heat pump equipment. What wears are the parts that move, like loop pumps, and the things that collect, like condensate drains.

### Do you do geothermal outside your everyday service area?

Yes. For everyday heating and cooling I run seven counties. For geothermal install, replacement, repair, tune-up, and diagnostics I travel across Oklahoma and into most of the states that border it, depending on the customer and the project. A geothermal diagnostic is $348 flat, and so is a geothermal tune-up.

### Is geothermal right for my Oklahoma home?

It can be a strong fit when the load, the ductwork, the loop option, and the budget line up. Acreage usually points to a horizontal loop and a tight town lot to vertical bores. I look at the property at a free estimate before anyone talks about a number. More on my
geothermal guide
.

## Air-Source Heat Pumps and Mini-Splits

### Do air-source heat pumps work in Oklahoma winters?

Yes. A standard heat pump handles most Oklahoma winter days, and on the coldest nights it leans on backup heat strips or, in a dual-fuel setup, a gas furnace. Cold-climate models like Mitsubishi’s Hyper-Heat line are built to keep heating well below anything Oklahoma usually sees. I am a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer.

### What is a ductless mini-split and who is it for?

A mini-split is a heat pump with no ductwork: small refrigerant lines connect an outdoor unit to one or more indoor heads on the wall or ceiling. It fits room additions, garages, converted spaces, older homes without ducts, and the one room the central system never keeps comfortable. See
ductless mini-splits
.

### What SEER2 rating should I look for?

SEER2 measures cooling efficiency, and higher is better. Federal minimums went up in 2023. Most homeowners get good value around 15 to 17 SEER2, and the right answer depends on how long you plan to stay and how hard the system runs. I will show you the options side by side on the estimate.

## Equipment and Brands

### What brands do you install and service?

I am a Trane TCS SELECT dealer, a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer, and an Amana Brand Advantage dealer. For geothermal I am a ClimateMaster GeoElite, WaterFurnace, and GeoStar dealer. I service all the major brands, no matter who installed them.

### Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. I hold an Oklahoma Master HVAC license, my techs are NATE certified, and I carry workers’ compensation and general liability insurance through Federated Insurance. BBB A+ for 11 years.

## Service Area

### What areas do you serve?

I run seven counties every day: Kingfisher, Canadian, Oklahoma, Garfield, Major, Logan, and Blaine. That covers Kingfisher, Enid, El Reno, Yukon, Mustang, Piedmont, Okarche, Guthrie, Watonga, Okeene, Fairview, and northwest Oklahoma City. Outside those seven I do not cover everyday heating and cooling, and I would rather tell you on the first call. Geothermal is the exception, statewide.

### Do you serve Enid?

Yes. Enid is in Garfield County, one of my seven daily counties.

### Do you offer same-day service?

Same-day service is offered where the schedule allows. Online booking shows the real open slots, and calling 405-375-4822 early in the day gives you the best shot.

## Emergencies and Safety

### What should I do right now if I smell gas or see smoke?

If you smell gas, see smoke or fire, hear a carbon monoxide alarm, see exposed live wiring, or have water flooding near electrical equipment: shut the system down if you safely can, leave the building, and call 911 or your utility. Call me once you are safe.

### What can I safely check before I call?

Check the thermostat mode and setpoint, the air filter, whether the breaker is tripped (reset it once, not over and over), that registers are open, and whether anything is blocking the outdoor unit. Write down any error code. Do not open panels, handle capacitors, add refrigerant, or work on gas parts. More on
safe checks before calling
.

### How do I stay comfortable while I wait for a repair?

In summer, close blinds on the sunny side, run fans, drink water, and stay on the lowest floor. In winter, close off unused rooms, add blankets, and block drafts at doors. Never use a gas stove, oven, or grill to heat the house, because of carbon monoxide. If someone elderly, very young, or medically fragile is in the house, move them somewhere comfortable until the system is back.

## Indoor Air Quality

### How often should I change my air filter?

A basic 1-inch filter usually every 30 to 60 days, a pleated 1-inch filter every 60 to 90 days, and a 4 to 5 inch media filter every 6 to 12 months. Pets, smoke, allergies, and construction dust all shorten that. A clogged filter chokes airflow, and low airflow is behind a lot of frozen coils and overheated equipment.

### How can I improve the air in my home?

Start with the filter and a clean coil and drain. From there, whole-home filtration, UV lights, humidifiers, and fresh-air ventilation each solve a different problem, so I recommend them based on what you are actually dealing with. See
indoor air quality
.

## Water Heaters

### How much is a water heater service call?

If something is wrong and the truck rolls for the water heater, the diagnostic is the standard $210. If my tech is already there for AC or geothermal work, a water heater diagnostic is $149. After hours it is the $309 emergency rate. A dedicated water heater tune-up is $149, and the WH 360 plan is $199 a year. Those numbers are for gas and electric tank units. Tankless has no public price: call with the brand, model, and what it is doing.

## Financing and Commercial

### Do you offer financing?

Yes, through five lenders: Synchrony (up to 18 months at 0%), Wells Fargo, Wisetack, Klarna (4 interest-free payments over 6 weeks), and JB Financing (routes through 30+ lenders, credit scores as low as 590). Financing covers repairs, maintenance plans, and add-ons, not only new systems. See
financing
.

### Do you work on commercial HVAC?

Yes. Light commercial up to 15 tons is a flat $389 diagnostic, day or night, and you can book it online. Above 15 tons I size the equipment on site and price it from there. Commercial maintenance agreements are priced building by building after a site visit.

## Water Heater Maintenance

WH 360 is the annual water-heater maintenance plan at $199 per year. WH Tune-Up is a $99 add-on only when my technician is already on site for AC, heating, or geothermal work. It is not a standalone appointment and it is not self-bookable online.

If the water heater is the reason for the truck roll, a Gas Water Heater Tune-Up or Electric Water Heater Tune-Up is $149.

Water heater diagnostics
are a separate product from the tune-up. When something is wrong and the truck rolls for it, the diagnostic is the standard $210 ($99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic). If my tech is already at your house for AC or geothermal work, a water heater diagnostic is $149. After hours it is the $309 emergency rate. These numbers are for gas and electric tank water heaters. Tankless units have no public price: call 405-375-4822 with the brand, model and what it is doing, and I will get back to you.

No separate plumbing maintenance plan is currently offered online.

## Why dispatch and diagnostic are two separate fees

Some companies advertise one low “service fee” and then build the diagnosis into labor rates or parts markups you do not see until the invoice. I keep the two fees separate because they pay for two different things.

- Dispatch, $99.The truck, the fuel, the stocked parts, and getting a qualified tech to your door. That cost is the same whether the visit takes ten minutes or three hours.

- Diagnostic, $111.The time and skill it takes to find the actual cause instead of guessing at a part. It is not credited back against the repair, so there is nothing hidden in the repair price to make up for it.

There is always a dispatch fee and always a diagnostic fee. I do not waive the diagnostic. The exceptions are the maintenance visit already included in a plan, a free estimate on a new system, and the Full Year 360 emergency dispatch waiver.

## Financing

If cost is the barrier, I offer financing through five lenders: Synchrony (up to 18 months at 0%), Wells Fargo, Wisetack (soft credit pull to check offers), Klarna (4 interest-free payments over 6 weeks), and JB Financing (routes through 30+ lenders, credit scores as low as 590). Financing covers repairs, maintenance plans, and add-ons like thermostats and air cleaners, not only new systems.

## Common pricing questions

Do I pay the dispatch fee if the problem cannot be fixed that day?
Yes. The dispatch and diagnostic cover getting to your house and finding what is wrong. If a part has to be ordered or the job is bigger than one visit, I tell you that up front, in writing, before any repair work is charged.

How much is after-hours or weekend HVAC service?
An after-hours emergency call is $309 flat: $198 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic, non-refundable. Geothermal stays at $348 flat any hour, and light commercial stays at $389 flat day or night.

Do you charge for estimates on a new system?
No. Estimates on new systems and replacements are free, with no truck charge. Call 405-375-4822 to set one up.

Can I get a repair price over the phone?
Not an honest one. A capacitor and a compressor can look the same from the thermostat, and that is exactly what the diagnostic is for. Once I know what failed, the repair price is in writing before I start.

How much does an HVAC service call cost in Kingfisher Oklahoma?
$210 flat: $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic. The same number applies across the seven counties I run daily: Kingfisher, Canadian, Oklahoma, Garfield, Major, Logan, and Blaine.

## Service Call Fee Rule

A standard residential service call is $210 total: $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic, $210 total. Repair work is quoted separately before approval.

Scheduled included maintenance visits have no dispatch fee. Repair calls still carry the normal dispatch and diagnostic unless the specific top-tier emergency-dispatch waiver applies.

### Which one fits you

One Visit Spring or Fall 360, $199.
One system, one season, you mostly want a professional set of eyes on it once a year. It is bare on purpose. The value is the visit.

Spring and Fall 360, $360.
The one most homes should be on. Both ends of the system get checked, you get the 10% repair discount capped at $300 per repair, and two standalone tune-ups would have cost you $458 anyway.

Full Year 360, $499.
For the house that cannot be down: older equipment, somebody home all day, a medical reason, or a system you already know is on borrowed time. You get the emergency trip charge waived twice a year, filters all year, and you go to the front of the schedule.

### The emergency waiver, exactly

On Full Year 360 and Geo Full Year 360 the $198 emergency dispatch is waived, up to two times per plan year. You still pay the $111 diagnostic, so an after hours call runs you $111 instead of $309. No emergency trip charge, twice a year. I am not going to write “unlimited” and then argue with you about it in August.

### Air filters

Spring and Fall 360 gets two filters, one installed at each seasonal visit, and that is the whole benefit. Full Year 360 keeps those two installs and covers your filters for the rest of the year too: call the office, we will have them ready, and pick them up at the shop whenever you are in town. That trip is on purpose. It is how I keep up with your system between visits.

### If you are down on the top plan

On Full Year 360 and Geo Full Year 360, if I cannot get your system running the same day, I will make arrangements to keep you comfortable, including putting you up for the night. That is between you and me, not a clause with conditions on it.

## Heat Pump Maintenance Plans

A heat pump is the system that most needs a plan, because it runs both seasons instead of one. Same prices as above: $199, $360, or $499 a year. The difference is what gets checked.

On a heat pump I run and measure both modes, not just cooling. I watch a full defrost cycle, test the defrost board and sensor, check the reversing valve changeover, and read amp draw on every auxiliary and emergency heat strip. A dead heat strip is invisible until the coldest night of the year, and then your heat pump is trying to hold the house by itself. I also look at where your balance point actually falls, because that is what decides how often the expensive strip heat is carrying the load.

For a heat pump, Spring and Fall 360 at $360 is the plan that makes sense. One visit a year on a two season machine leaves half of it untested.

This is the air source plan.
If your outdoor unit sits beside the house with a fan in it, you are in the right place. If there is no outdoor unit at all and the system trades heat with a buried loop, that is a geothermal, or ground source, heat pump, and it runs on the
Geo 360 plans
instead at $360 to $499 a year.

## Furnace and Air Conditioner Service Plans

If you have a gas furnace and a separate air conditioner, the seasonal split is simple. Spring is the cooling visit: charge verified by superheat and subcooling, condenser coil cleaned, capacitor read against its rated microfarads, amp draws, temperature split, condensate drain flushed and the float switch tested. Fall is the heating visit: heat exchanger inspected, burners and flame sensor cleaned and tested, gas manifold pressure set to nameplate, combustion and carbon monoxide measured, flue draft checked, and every safety switch proved.

The heating visit is the one I will not let people skip. Cracked heat exchangers and bad flues are not comfort problems, they are carbon monoxide problems.

The filters on Spring and Fall 360 get installed by me at the visit. On Full Year 360 you can pick up more any time, just call the office.

I am IGSHPA accredited, a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, and a WaterFurnace and GeoStar dealer. Geothermal is also the work I travel for: everyday AC, heating, and water heater service stays in my seven counties, but for geothermal I go across Oklahoma and most bordering states depending on the project.

A geothermal diagnostic is $348 flat, weekday or after hours, and that is separate from these plans. It is a full performance audit: loop pressure, refrigerant charge, desuperheater, controls, and heat exchanger, with a written report and a quote before I leave.

## Service Call Fee Rule

There is always a dispatch fee and always a diagnostic fee. A standard residential service call is $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic, $210 total. After hours is $198 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic, $309 total, and that one is non-refundable. Commercial is $389 flat, day or night. Geothermal is $348 flat, day or night. Repair work is always quoted separately before I start it.

Scheduled maintenance visits included in your plan carry no dispatch fee. Repair calls still carry the normal dispatch and diagnostic, unless the Full Year 360 emergency waiver applies. Somebody drove a truck to your house and spent time finding the problem, so both fees are always on the ticket.

## What a Plan Does Not Do

A maintenance plan is not a warranty and it is not a repair contract. It does not cover parts, refrigerant, or repair labor. What it does is catch the drifting capacitor, the plugged drain, the weak heat strip, and the cracked heat exchanger before they become a July or January emergency, and it puts you on a list of people I already know.

If cost is the barrier on a plan or a repair, I finance both. Synchrony up to 18 months at 0%, Wells Fargo, Wisetack, Klarna, and JB Financing. Wisetack, Klarna, and JB Financing only do a soft credit pull to show you offers, so checking does not touch your score.

## Where These Plans Are Available

Kingfisher, Canadian, Oklahoma, Garfield, Major, Logan, and Blaine counties: Kingfisher, El Reno, Yukon, Mustang, Okarche, Piedmont, Enid, Guthrie, Crescent, Watonga, Hennessey, Cashion, and the towns in between. Geothermal reaches further, across Oklahoma and most bordering states.

## Questions

How much does an HVAC maintenance plan cost in Oklahoma?
$199 a year for one seasonal visit, $360 a year for spring and fall, and $499 a year for the full year plan. Geothermal plans are $360, $428, and $499. The water heater plan, WH 360, is $199 a year.

Is a heat pump maintenance plan worth it?
On a heat pump, yes, more than on any other system. It runs in both seasons, so one annual visit only tests half of it. Spring and Fall 360 at $360 checks both modes, the defrost cycle, and every auxiliary heat strip, and it is less than the $458 two standalone tune-ups would cost.

What is the difference between a maintenance plan and a tune-up?
A tune-up is one visit you pay for when you book it, $229 on a weekday. A plan prepays the seasonal visits for the year and adds the repair discount, filters, and the scheduling benefits. Everything a tune-up covers is on the
tune-up page
.

Do plan members get free service calls?
No. The included maintenance visits have no dispatch fee. A repair call still carries the $99 dispatch and $111 diagnostic. The one exception is Full Year 360 and Geo Full Year 360, where the $198 emergency dispatch is waived up to twice a plan year and you pay just the $111 diagnostic.

How big is the repair discount?
10% on Spring and Fall 360 and on every Full Year and geothermal plan, capped at $300 per repair. One Visit Spring or Fall 360 has no repair discount. The top tier is better because of the emergency waiver and the filters, not because of a bigger percentage.

Can I still buy the older named plans?
No. Tune-Up PMA, Basic PMA, and Dave’s 360 are retired names. The current plans are One Visit Spring or Fall 360, Spring and Fall 360, Full Year 360, and the geothermal versions of each.

Can I put a maintenance plan on financing?
Yes. Financing covers plans, repairs, and add-ons like thermostats and air cleaners, not just new systems.

When do the visits happen?
Cooling in spring before the first stretch of 95 degree days, heating in fall before the first hard freeze. The office schedules them with you. Maintenance visits are planned work, so the earlier you book, the better the slot.

4.8 stars, 300+ Google reviews

Current geothermal maintenance names, prices, visits, and limits.

These are maintenance plans for
geothermal heat pumps
, the kind that trade heat with the ground through a buried loop instead of with the outdoor air. You will see the same machine called a ground source heat pump, a geoexchange system or just geo. Same thing, and ClimateMaster, WaterFurnace and GeoStar all build them.

Looking for an air source heat pump plan instead?
If your outdoor unit sits beside the house and has a fan in it, that is an air source heat pump and it belongs on the
HVAC and heat pump 360 plans
, not on this page. The plans below are only for systems with a ground loop.

Plan
Annual price

Geo One Visit Spring or Fall 360
$360/year
1
Loop pressure and fluid condition, indoor heat-pump inspection, desuperheater check when equipped, basic performance review, written report.
10%, up to $300 per repair

Geo Spring and Fall 360
$428/year
2
Two seasonal geothermal visits, loop and flow-center review, coil and electrical checks, desuperheater check when equipped, written report.
10%, up to $300 per repair

Geo Full Year 360
$499/year
2
Top geothermal plan. Filters covered all year: call the office and pick them up at the shop. The $198 emergency dispatch is waived up to two times per plan year, and the $111 diagnostic still applies.
10%, up to $300 per repair

Older geothermal PDF links are not current. Call the office for the current plan sheet before enrollment.

Geothermal service and diagnostic calls follow the current fee rule. Do not rely on older discount, arrival-time, or diagnostic-waiver language.

## What a Geothermal Visit Covers That an Air System Does Not

A geothermal heat pump has no outdoor condenser to hose off. The work is underground and in the mechanical room, and it is a different checklist:

- Loop pressure and fluid level, plus antifreeze concentration.

- Flow rate and the temperature difference across the coax, entering and leaving water. That pair is how you catch a loop losing performance while it is still working.

- Flow center and circulator pumps.

- Desuperheater and its water side when the unit has one, which is free hot water you already paid for and should not be letting sit dead.

- Refrigerant charge, compressor and blower electrical, airflow and controls.

- A written report before I leave, with a quote for anything I found.

## Ground Source and Air Source Are Not the Same Service Plan

Both are heat pumps and both move heat rather than burn fuel, so the plans get confused constantly. The difference that matters for a maintenance plan is where the heat comes from, because that is what I am inspecting.

Geothermal, ground source
Air source

Outdoor unit
None. The loop is buried and the equipment is indoors.
A condenser beside the house with a fan.

What I inspect
Loop pressure, antifreeze, flow rate, entering and leaving water temperature, flow center and pumps, desuperheater.
Outdoor coil, fan, defrost cycle, refrigerant, auxiliary heat strips.

Plan
Geo 360 plans on this page, $360 to $499.
360 plans
, $199 to $499.

Standalone visit
$348 flat, weekday or after hours.
$229 tune-up, weekday 7am to 3pm.

Service area
Nearly the whole state.
My seven counties.

If you are not sure which one you have, the quickest tell is outside: a geothermal system has no outdoor condenser at all. If there is nothing running out there on a hot afternoon and the house is still cool, it is almost certainly geothermal.

A desuperheater coil tied into the water heater. When it is working it is free hot water off the geo unit, and it is on my checklist every visit.

## Brands I Am Accredited On

I am IGSHPA accredited, a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, a WaterFurnace dealer, and a GeoStar dealer for both commercial and residential. On a ClimateMaster system the visit is checked against the factory service data for that model, and anything still under warranty is processed through me.

## Loops, Bores and Who Does the Drilling

I design the loop, size the system, and stand behind the install. The drilling itself is done by my OWRB licensed driller, not by me. I offer water well drilling and geothermal bore drilling through him. There is no public price on a well or a bore, so call 405-375-4822 and I will get the details and put a real number together.

## How Far I Travel for Geothermal

Geothermal is the exception to my service area. Everyday AC, heating and water heater work stays inside Kingfisher, Canadian, Oklahoma, Garfield, Major, Logan and Blaine counties. For geothermal I travel across nearly the whole state of Oklahoma, depending on the customer and the project. If you have a geothermal system and you are outside those seven counties, call me anyway.

If you are comparing this against the standard plans, the
HVAC and heat pump 360 plans
cover air source systems, and the
tune-up page
has the one-off prices and the full checklist for every system type.

## Geothermal plan questions

These plans are serviced by me personally. I am IGSHPA accredited and a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, so on a ClimateMaster system a maintenance visit is checked against the factory service data for that model, and anything still under warranty is processed through me. Call 405-375-4822.

How much does a geothermal tune-up cost if I am not on a plan?
$348 flat. Same number weekday or after hours.

Is the geothermal diagnostic price different after hours?
No. Geothermal is $348 flat, day or night. It is never quoted at the $309 emergency rate.

Do I have to be a plan member to get geothermal maintenance in Oklahoma?
No. You can book a standalone geothermal tune-up any time. The plan just puts the visits on a schedule so I am not showing up after something already broke.

What gets checked on a geothermal maintenance visit?
Loop pressure and fluid condition, entering and leaving water temperature, flow, the flow center and pump, coil and electrical, airflow, controls, and the desuperheater when the system has one. You get a written report.

How much is a geothermal maintenance plan in Oklahoma?
Geo One Visit Spring or Fall 360 is $360 a year, Geo Spring and Fall 360 is $428, and Geo Full Year 360 is $499. All three carry a 10% repair discount, up to $300 per repair.

Do you service geothermal outside your normal service area?
Yes. Geothermal is the one thing I travel for, across Oklahoma and most bordering states. My everyday HVAC work stays inside the seven counties.

Do you work on WaterFurnace and GeoStar, or only ClimateMaster?
All three. I am a WaterFurnace dealer, a GeoStar dealer for commercial and residential, and a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, and I am IGSHPA accredited.

Does the $348 still apply if my geothermal unit is under warranty?
Yes. The $348 geothermal diagnostic applies on a warranty visit too. The warranty covers the part, it does not cover the trip and the time to find the fault.

What does the emergency waiver on Geo Full Year 360 actually cover?
The $198 emergency dispatch is waived up to two times per plan year. You still pay the $111 diagnostic, so an after hours call is $111 instead of $309. It is two, not unlimited.

Do you have a heat pump service plan?
Yes, two families of them. If it is a geothermal, ground source heat pump, the Geo 360 plans on this page cover it: $360, $428 or $499 a year. If it is an air source heat pump with an outdoor condenser, that is the
360 plans
at $199, $360 or $499.

Is a geothermal system the same as a ground source heat pump?
Yes. Geothermal, ground source, geoexchange and geo all describe the same machine: a heat pump that exchanges heat with a buried loop instead of with outside air. ClimateMaster, WaterFurnace and GeoStar all build them and I service all three.

Why does a geothermal plan cost more than the air source plan?
Because the visit is longer and it covers things an air system does not have. Loop pressure, antifreeze concentration, flow rate, entering and leaving water temperature across the coax, the flow center and circulator pumps, and the desuperheater. That is a different checklist and it takes a tech accredited on it.

## HVAC repair

Use this page when the air conditioner, furnace, heat pump, thermostat, or airflow is not working correctly. The appointment begins with diagnosis and a written explanation of the next step.

## Heat pump repair in Oklahoma City

If you searched “heat pump repair near me” from northwest OKC, Yukon, Mustang, Piedmont, Bethany, Warr Acres, Edmond or El Reno, that is my route. I run heat pump calls all year: summer cooling failures, winter no-heat calls, and the shoulder-season days when the system cannot decide which mode it should be in.

The heat pump problems I find most in Oklahoma City homes:

- Defrost problems. The outdoor coil ices over and never clears. That is usually a defrost control, sensor, or airflow issue, and it gets worse every cold night it is left alone.

- Auxiliary heat that runs too long or not at all.Heat strips that stay on push the electric bill up fast in a cold snap. Strips that never come on leave you cold when the temperature drops into the teens.

- Refrigerant leaksat the line set, the outdoor coil, or the indoor coil. I find the leak before I talk about adding refrigerant.

- Reversing valve failuresthat lock the system in heat or in cool.

- Capacitor and contactor failures, the parts that most often quit on the first 100 degree afternoon of the summer.

- Condensate drain clogsthat back water up into the air handler.

I work on every major brand. I am a Trane TCS SELECT dealer, a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer, and a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer for ground-source heat pumps. The visit is the same $210 flat, $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic. Once I know what failed, I give you the repair price in writing before any work starts. For the full breakdown of seasonal failures and what the diagnostic covers, see my
heat pump repair page
.

## Heat pump maintenance and replacement in Oklahoma City

Maintenance.
A heat pump heats and cools, so it wears in both seasons. A standalone tune-up is $229, weekday 7am to 3pm. If you want it looked at twice a year, the Spring and Fall 360 plan is $360 a year for both visits, against $458 for two standalone tune-ups, and it adds 10% off repairs, up to $300 per repair. The One Visit Spring or Fall 360 is $199 a year and the Full Year 360 is $499 a year. All three are laid out on my
maintenance plans page
, and the OKC specifics are on
HVAC maintenance in Oklahoma City
.

Replacement.
When a heat pump is old enough that repairs stop making sense, the estimate is free. I size the new system with a Manual J load calculation instead of copying the tonnage off the old unit, and I look at the ductwork, because a new heat pump on bad ducts still runs like a bad system. See
HVAC replacement in Oklahoma City
and
heat pump installation
for what goes into a quote. If cost is the barrier,
financing
covers repairs and maintenance plans too, not only new systems.

## What a service call costs in Oklahoma City

There is always a dispatch fee and always a diagnostic fee. I do not waive the diagnostic, and it is not credited back against the repair. You get one number up front and that is the number.

- Residential service call, $210 flat.That is $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic.

- Emergency call, $309 flat. That is $198 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic, non-refundable, covering residential and standard AC, heating, and heat pumps.

- Geothermal diagnostic, $348 flat.Weekday or after hours, same number.

- Commercial diagnostic, $389 flat.Day or night, light commercial up to 15 tons.

- New system estimate, free.No truck charge on a replacement quote.

## 24/7 emergency HVAC in Oklahoma City

If the system is down at night, on a weekend, or on a holiday, call and I will tell you straight whether it needs a truck tonight or whether it can safely wait for a normal appointment. An emergency call is $309 flat. That is $198 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic, and it is non-refundable. It covers residential and standard AC, heating, and heat pumps.

Before you call me:
if you smell gas, see smoke or fire, hear electrical arcing, notice a carbon monoxide alarm sounding, or see flooding near electrical equipment, shut the system down, leave the building, and call 911 or your utility first. Call me once you are safe.

## Commercial and light industrial

Light commercial up to 15 tons is a flat $389 diagnostic, day or night, and you can book it online without calling first. There is no after-hours uplift on that number, so a Sunday rooftop call is the same $389 as a Tuesday morning.

Above 15 tons I measure and size the equipment on site and price the work from there. Nobody can size a rooftop unit or a chiller over the phone, so I would rather look at it than guess at a number you cannot hold me to.

I also handle
commercial refrigeration repair
in Oklahoma City: walk-in coolers, reach-ins and restaurant equipment.

## Geothermal service and replacement

For an existing ground-source system, I check loop pressure, water temperatures, flow, airflow, controls, and equipment operation before I recommend repair or replacement. Start with my
Oklahoma geothermal guide
.

Geothermal on a suburban OKC lot.
Most metro lots are too small for horizontal trenches, so vertical bores are the usual answer in Oklahoma City. I design the loop, size the system and stand behind the install; the drilling itself is done by my OWRB-licensed driller. I look at the lot, the house and the existing equipment at a free estimate visit before anyone talks about a number. See
geothermal installation
and
what drives geothermal cost
.
A geothermal diagnostic is $348 flat, and it is the exception to the emergency rate above: the same number weekday or after hours, never $309. That buys a full performance audit covering loop pressure, refrigerant charge, desuperheater, controls, and heat exchanger, with a written report and quote before I leave. I am IGSHPA accredited.

## Where I run every day

I run seven counties daily: Kingfisher, Canadian, Oklahoma, Garfield, Major, Logan, and Blaine. Northwest Oklahoma City and the western side of the metro sit inside that. If your address is outside those seven counties, I do not cover it for everyday heating and cooling, and I would rather tell you on the first call than waste your afternoon. Geothermal is the exception: for geothermal I travel across Oklahoma and into most of the states that border it, depending on the customer and the project. Scheduling inside the seven depends on the active route, so call or use the booking form for a current time.

## Oklahoma City communities I serve

These are the metro towns I am in most weeks. Each one has its own page with local detail:

- HVAC service in Yukon

- HVAC service in Mustang

- HVAC service in Piedmont

- HVAC service in Edmond

- HVAC service in El Reno

- HVAC service in Bethany

- HVAC service in Warr Acres

- HVAC across Oklahoma County

## Other work I do across the metro

- AC repair:weak airflow, warm air, short cycling, a loud compressor, all brands.

- Furnace repair:gas furnaces and air handlers, including the no-heat calls that come with the first cold front.

- Ductless mini-splits:I am a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer. Garages, additions, and the one room the central system never keeps up with.

- Indoor air quality:whole-home filtration, UV lights, humidifiers, and fresh-air ventilation.

- Emergency service:$309 flat after hours, $198 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic.

## Why I drive to Oklahoma City from Kingfisher

Oklahoma City is about 45 miles from my shop in Kingfisher, and northwest OKC, Yukon, Piedmont and the western suburbs are a natural piece of my territory. I have 47 years in HVAC/R and 15+ years running this business, so when my truck pulls up you get somebody who fixes the problem, not a salesperson.

The OKC climate is hard on equipment. July and August routinely go past 100 degrees, and the metro sits in the path of spring hail and high wind that batter outdoor units. Systems here work harder than they would somewhere milder, so they have to be sized and installed for it. I hold an Oklahoma Master HVAC license, I am IGSHPA accredited for geothermal, and my techs are NATE certified. 4.8 stars,

## Questions I get from Oklahoma City homeowners

How much does an HVAC service call cost in Oklahoma City?
A residential service call is $210 flat. That is $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic. The $111 is not credited back against the repair, so the number I quote for the visit is the number you pay for the visit.

How much is an after-hours emergency HVAC call in Oklahoma City?
$309 flat. That is $198 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic, and it is non-refundable. It covers residential and standard AC, heating, and heat pumps.

How much does a commercial HVAC diagnostic cost in Oklahoma City?
$389 flat, day or night, for light commercial up to 15 tons. There is no after-hours uplift on that rate. Above 15 tons I size the equipment on site and price it from there.

Do you charge a dispatch fee?
Yes. There is always a dispatch fee and always a diagnostic fee, and I do not waive the diagnostic. The two exceptions a homeowner runs into most are the maintenance visit already included in a plan and a free estimate on a new system.

Do you service geothermal heat pumps in Oklahoma City?
Yes. A geothermal diagnostic is $348 flat, weekday or after hours. It covers loop pressure, refrigerant charge, desuperheater, controls, and heat exchanger, and you get a written report and quote before I leave. I am IGSHPA accredited.

How much does heat pump repair cost in Oklahoma City?
The visit is $210 flat, $99 dispatch plus $111 diagnostic. The repair itself depends on what failed. A capacitor is a very different number from a reversing valve or a compressor, so I price the repair in writing once I know what it is, before any work starts. Financing covers repairs if you need it.

How fast can you get to a heat pump in Oklahoma City?
Same-day service is offered where the schedule allows. Online booking shows the real open slots, and calling 405-375-4822 early in the day gives you the best shot. After hours, the emergency rate is $309 flat.

Can I put geothermal on a suburban lot in Oklahoma City?
Usually, yes. Where there is not room for horizontal trenches, vertical bores take far less yard. I design the loop and size the system, and my OWRB-licensed driller does the drilling. I look at the lot at a free estimate visit and tell you plainly whether it works.

What brands of HVAC equipment do you install in Oklahoma City?
I am a Trane TCS SELECT dealer, a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer, and an Amana Brand Advantage dealer. For geothermal I am a ClimateMaster GeoElite, WaterFurnace, and GeoStar dealer. I service all the major brands, whatever is already in your house.

Do you cover Edmond, Yukon, and Mustang?
Yes. Edmond is in Oklahoma County and Yukon and Mustang are in Canadian County, and both counties are in the seven I run every day.
