Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an AC tune-up cost in Kingfisher Oklahoma?
A professional AC tune-up at my shop is $229 flat. That includes the $99 dispatch fee, a 22-point inspection, performance testing, minor adjustments, and a written report. No hidden labor charges. The only upsell is parts (capacitors, contactors, refrigerant) and only when the test results actually call for them.
What is included in the $229 AC tune-up?
A 22-point inspection that takes 60 to 90 minutes per system. Refrigerant pressures, subcooling and superheat, compressor amp draw, capacitor microfarad readings, static pressure at supply and return, temperature differential, thermostat calibration, drain pan, electrical connections, lineset insulation, heat strip and reversing-valve operation, and a cycle test. Every measurement goes on the written report I leave with you.
Why are $59 and $89 AC tune-up specials a bad deal?
A $59 tune-up is usually a 15 to 20 minute walk-around. The technician is paid commission on what he finds, which is why the same homeowner gets quoted a $400 capacitor (real cost $35) and a $700 leak search (real cost: included in my $229). Cheap tune-up shops close roughly 30 percent of those calls into a $400-plus repair or a $5,000-plus replacement quote. That is the business model.
When should I book an AC tune-up in Oklahoma?
March through May, before the first 95-degree day in June. Equipment that runs hard in July without a spring tune-up is the equipment that fails at 4 PM on a Saturday with the indoor temp climbing to 88 degrees. By the time that call lands on my phone the $229 tune-up has already been replaced by a $400 to $1,200 emergency repair.
Is the AC tune-up cheaper if I am on a maintenance plan?
Yes. The Tune-Up PMA is $138 a year and includes one spring AC tune-up plus one fall heating tune-up. Basic PMA is $189. Dave’s 360 Plan is $360 a year and bundles tune-ups, priority dispatch, and parts discounts. The $99 dispatch is waived on the included annual visit. Repair calls always carry the $99 dispatch.
How much does a properly tuned AC actually save on the electric bill?
A properly tuned AC uses 10 to 20 percent less electricity per ENERGY STAR field studies. On a typical $250 July OG&E bill that is $25 to $50 saved every month the system runs hard. On 100 random tune-ups across my book in 2024-2025, 32 percent had low static pressure, 28 percent had a failing capacitor under 80 percent rated microfarad, 19 percent were 0.5 lb low on refrigerant, and 44 percent had a dirty outdoor coil. Most homeowners are amazed how much fine equipment is actually 10 to 15 percent under-performing.
