CKenergy or OG&E, depending which side of the county you are on
Canadian County splits between CKenergy Electric Cooperative out west and OG&E toward the metro side. CKenergy runs a real geothermal rebate program for its members and OG&E's Oklahoma residential rebates are closed for 2026. That is a big difference on the same size job, and it comes down to which lines run to your meter.

What changed on new equipment
New systems now ship with R-454B or R-32 instead of R-410A. Both are mildly flammable A2L refrigerants, both cost meaningfully more per pound than R-410A did, and both need the right recovery equipment and handling. I stock and work on both, and I will tell you which one your new system uses before you buy it.
On an older R-410A or R-22 system the question is usually whether to keep repairing it. I look at age, the failure and what else is tired, then tell you what I would do if it were my house. Hard water is what kills them here
Oklahoma hard water runs about 15 to 25 grains per gallon across my service area. That sediment settles in the bottom of the tank, insulates the burner or the element from the water it is supposed to heat, and shortens the life of the whole thing. I service gas and electric tank water heaters, and geothermal desuperheater hookups.

The credentials, and what they are for
I am Dave Hartzell. I started in this trade at sixteen and a half working for my dad, which puts me at 47 years, and I have run my own shop in Kingfisher for 15+ years. I am not a franchise and I am not a call center. When I say I will look at it, I am the one looking at it.
How Canadian County started
Canadian County came out of the same run on April 22, 1889, and on that first day they called it County Four. The Canadian River along its southern border had been a legal line drawn across country that looked identical on both sides: it separated Indian Territory from the Unassigned Lands. When the gun fired at noon, fifty thousand people crossed, and El Reno appeared that afternoon.
Fort Reno was already there when they arrived. The Army built it in 1875 to manage tension along the Cheyenne and Arapaho reservation boundary. It became a cavalry post, and in World War II it held German and Italian prisoners of war. Part of the site is still in use, and those original stone buildings still stand west of El Reno on Route 66. I drive past them on service calls.
The fried onion burger came out of El Reno during the Depression, when meat was expensive and a cook at the Hamburger Inn started smashing shredded onion into a five cent patty to make it stretch. Robert's Grill has been serving them since 1926, the same year Route 66 was commissioned.

Okarche, Piedmont, Yukon, El Reno, Calumet, Union City, Mustang and the country between them. Okarche straddles the Kingfisher line and I work both sides of it.
How far is your shop from El Reno?
My shop is in Kingfisher, about thirty miles north of El Reno. Canadian County is inside my everyday seven county service area, so it is a normal call, not a special trip.
What does a service call cost in Canadian County?

Does CKenergy have a geothermal rebate?

Can you install geothermal in Piedmont or Okarche?
Yes, and those acreages are good candidates. The evaluation and sizing are free, including Saturday and Sunday. A geothermal diagnostic on an existing system is $348 flat.
My house is only a few years old and it still cannot keep up. Why?
Usually it was sized to pass, not to perform, or the ductwork is undersized for the run. I measure static pressure and airflow before I tell you it needs a bigger unit, because often it does not.
