A Note From Dave
I started picking up trash at ten years old. Not as a punishment. Because my family was in the trades and that is where the work was. My father taught me electricity. By thirteen I was doing real electrical work. By high school I was leading a four-man crew of grown men, they drove the truck, I ran the job.
I tell you that because I want you to know what kind of company this is. I am not looking for someone to fill a slot on a schedule. I am looking for someone who wants to build something, a career, a reputation, a life in this trade.
I pay differently than most shops in Oklahoma. My technicians earn a percentage of the invoice value of the work they complete, 6 to 8 percent, depending on role and experience. That is on top of a competitive base. What that means in practice is that a technician who is good at their job and takes care of customers earns significantly more than someone who just punches a clock. It also means my crew only does right by each other when we do right by the customer. That is exactly how I want it.
I have held a Master HVAC license in this state. I ran a classified national infrastructure project for Sprint, their largest in company history, under budget, ahead of schedule, zero outages. I have sold Carrier systems in Kingfisher-area homes for twelve years. I have fought fires in Watonga for five. Every one of those things taught me the same lesson: the standard you hold yourself to is the only thing that follows you home.
If that is how you think, we should talk.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an HVAC apprentice make in Oklahoma?
HVAC apprentice pay in Oklahoma generally ranges from about $15 to $22 per hour depending on experience, certifications, and region. Pay rises as the apprentice earns EPA 608, logs field hours, and works toward NATE. At Hartzell’s, apprentice pay reflects experience and willingness to learn, plus paid training time.
What are the steps to becoming a journeyman HVAC tech in OKC?
In Oklahoma, the typical path is: 1) earn EPA 608 certification, 2) work as an apprentice or helper logging documented field hours under a licensed contractor, 3) hit the required apprentice hours per Oklahoma CIB rules, 4) sit for and pass the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board journeyman HVAC exam. Most OKC apprentices need several years of field experience. We support apprentices through that path at Hartzell’s.
Do you hire HVAC techs from the OKC metro?
Yes. Many of our service calls run through Canadian County, Logan County, and the north and west OKC metro. Techs who live in Yukon, Piedmont, Mustang, Edmond, or El Reno are welcome to apply. Our shop is in Kingfisher, about 45 minutes northwest of downtown OKC. Call 405-375-4822 to talk about openings.
Is Hartzell’s Heat & Air currently hiring HVAC technicians?
I am always interested in hearing from qualified HVAC technicians in central Oklahoma. I look for EPA 608 certification at minimum. NATE certification is preferred but I will support technicians working toward it. Send a resume to my Kingfisher, OK shop or call 405-375-4822.
What experience is required to work at Hartzell’s Heat & Air?
I hire at multiple levels, from apprentices and helpers learning the trade to experienced NATE-certified technicians ready to run their own calls. Geothermal experience (ClimateMaster, WaterFurnace) is a major plus. My shop specializes in residential, commercial, and geothermal HVAC in central Oklahoma.
What does Hartzell’s Heat & Air pay HVAC technicians?
I offer competitive wages based on experience and certifications, plus a company vehicle, smartphone, and tool allowance for qualified technicians. My crew is a small team where every technician’s work is visible and valued, no corporate bureaucracy.
Does Hartzell’s offer HVAC apprenticeships or internships?
Yes. I accept HVAC apprentices and interns who are serious about the trade. Hartzell’s provides hands-on experience across residential, commercial, geothermal, and commercial refrigeration, more variety than most shops our size. Call me at 405-375-4822 to discuss current openings.
