Before Dover was a town it was a trading post on the Chisholm Trail. The Red Fork Traders’ Ranch stood here and the herds moving north crossed at this point. Highway 81 runs the same line today, which is why the drive from Kingfisher is eight easy miles and why Dover has always been on the route rather than off it.
