Land, soil, and a co-op rebate that is actually live
Most of Oklahoma cannot make geothermal pencil because the lots are too small to trench and drilling a vertical bore on a quarter acre gets expensive fast. Piedmont is the opposite problem to have: acreage, room to lay a horizontal field, and soil that behaves.
The other half is the co-op. Piedmont straddles service territories, and if CKenergy is the name on your power bill their geothermal rebate is $2,000 per ton, capped at $24,000, effective January 2026, and retrofits qualify as well as new installs. They also run a fixed 6 percent loan over four to seven years on energy work. If OG&E bills you instead, their Oklahoma residential rebates are closed for 2026 and expected back in 2027. Same house, same equipment, completely different money, which is why I ask who bills you before I say a number.

Piedmont houses, and what goes wrong in them
Piedmont is ranch homes and acreage builds next to fast new construction, and the two fail in completely different ways.
- Builder-grade systems sized off a spreadsheetNew builds out here get sold with equipment picked from a table rather than a load calculation. Three years later the house cannot hold temperature in August and everyone blames the unit. I run the numbers before I quote a replacement.
- Loop pump modules and flow centresOn an existing geothermal system this is the part I am called to most: flow, pressure and the pumps that move it. The photos below are a Piedmont loop pump upgrade.
- Heat pumps stuck in coolingReversing valve or a control that was never set up for a heat pump. The house never warms.
- Acreage properties on well waterWhere there is already a good well, an open loop is worth costing out against a closed field. It does not suit every place and I check yield and water quality before I say so.
- Long duct runs in wide housesSingle storey, spread out, and the far bedroom never keeps up. Usually a static pressure and return air problem rather than a tonnage problem.
- Storm damage and surgeOpen country means lightning. A control board or a compressor lost to a spike is a bad week, and surge protection is cheap by comparison.

What is safe to check, and what is not
Before I get there, there are a few things worth knowing, and they are the same whether you are in Piedmont or anywhere else I work.
- Gas smell, a CO alarm, smoke or arcingLeave the house. Call the gas utility or 911 from outside, then call me. I will not walk you through troubleshooting while you are standing in it, and that guidance is free and comes before any talk about a service call.
- Safe things to check yourselfThermostat mode and setpoint, the filter, whether a breaker has tripped, closed registers, anything visibly blocking the outdoor unit, and any fault code on the display. Write down what you see and what you hear.
- Stop and call insteadBreakers that keep tripping, water near the equipment, ice on the coil or lines, a burning smell, or a geothermal loop or flow alarm. Those are not wait-and-see.
- What I will not ask you to doOpen an energised panel, touch a capacitor, bypass a safety, add refrigerant or work on a gas valve. That is licensed work for a reason.
Who covers what, and for how long
Two different warranties get muddled constantly, so here is the plain version. My labor is mine: every repair carries a six month labor guarantee, and every system I install carries one year on parts and labor. If the same problem comes back inside that window, I come back and there is no charge for it.
The manufacturer warranty is separate and it belongs to them, not to me. A Trane system registered at install carries twelve years on the compressor and ten on parts through the TCS SELECT program. A Mitsubishi system installed by a Diamond Dealer in a single-family home and registered inside ninety days carries twelve years on parts and twelve on the compressor; without that registration it drops to five years on parts and seven on the compressor. Manufacturer coverage does not include labor, which is exactly why I register every system the day it goes in rather than leaving that to you.
Founded by a doctor, discovered by everybody else
Piedmont started small and rural and stayed that way a long time, which is exactly why it is growing now: it is close enough to Oklahoma City to commute and far enough out to have land. That combination is what fills the new subdivisions on the south and east sides while the older places out toward the county line still sit on acreage.
For me that means two service calls that look nothing alike. One is a four year old house where the builder’s system was never sized for the west-facing glass. The other is a place on ten acres with a geothermal system somebody installed well in 2009 and nobody has flow-tested since. I am about 25 miles up the road in Kingfisher, Canadian County is on the daily route, and I would rather drive it than tell you to wait three days for a company coming out from the metro.

Am I on CKenergy or OG&E in Piedmont?
It depends on your exact address, because the territories interleave around Piedmont. It matters: CKenergy’s geothermal rebate is $2,000 per ton capped at $24,000 and retrofits qualify, while OG&E’s Oklahoma residential rebates are closed for 2026 and expected back in 2027. Read the name at the top of your power bill and tell me which it is, and we confirm the live program before quoting.

My Piedmont house is only a few years old and the AC cannot keep up. Why?
Almost always sizing. Production builders pick equipment from a table, and a house with west-facing glass and high ceilings does not behave like the one the table assumed. A Manual J load calculation tells us whether it is undersized, whether the duct is the real problem, or both, before you spend money replacing like for like.
Do you work with builders on new construction in Piedmont?
Yes. Load calculation on every house, equipment sized to the plan, and the duct designed rather than improvised. It is far cheaper to get it right before the drywall goes up.
What does a service call cost in Piedmont?

Is there an extra charge for an emergency call in Piedmont?
After hours residential is $309, which is $198 dispatch plus the $111 diagnostic. It is not refundable and it is not credited against the repair. Geothermal does not change at night: it is $348 flat whatever the hour, and light commercial is $389 flat, day or night. Members on the Full Year 360 plan get the $198 emergency dispatch waived twice a plan year, though the $111 diagnostic still applies.
What brands do you work on?
All the major ones: Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Rheem, Goodman, American Standard, RunTru, Daikin, Mitsubishi and ClimateMaster, plus whatever the last owner left behind. I am a Trane TCS SELECT dealer, a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer and a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, but brand does not limit the diagnosis and common parts ride on the truck.
