I would rather show you what my records say than tell you El Reno is my biggest town. It is not. Most of my work is north of you, around Kingfisher, and that is the point: a shop about 25 miles up US-81 is close enough to run El Reno routinely without the metro backlog.

What that adds up to: El Reno is a summer town for me, and the house is usually older than the equipment in it. On the older blocks near downtown I look at the duct before I talk about tonnage. Old town, original duct, modern equipment
El Reno predates most of the metro suburbs by decades, and a lot of the housing near the centre of town was built before central air was a normal thing to have. The duct in those houses was added later, and in plenty of cases it has never been resized for the equipment now hanging off it.

Storms, gas smells, and what is safe to check
Canadian County gets real weather. The May 31, 2013 El Reno tornado was the widest ever measured, 2.6 miles across, and hail and wind damage to outdoor units is a normal spring call for me here.
- Gas smell or a carbon monoxide alarmGet everyone out first. Do not touch the thermostat, switches or breakers on the way. Call 911 or the gas utility from outside, then call me. No troubleshooting comes before that.
- After hail or a wind stormIf the outdoor unit has bent fins, debris in it, or wiring pulled loose, turn the system off at the thermostat and leave the panels and disconnect closed. Take a photo for your insurance and call me.
- Safe for you to checkThermostat mode and setpoint, the filter, whether a breaker has tripped (reset it once, not over and over), closed registers, and anything blocking the outdoor unit.

Who covers what on an El Reno job
On a repair, my labor guarantee is six months on the part I replaced and on my work on it. If that part or my work fails inside six months, I come back and fix it at no charge. A different part failing, or a leak in a different spot, is a new problem and a regular service call. Parts carry their manufacturer’s warranty, and I buy parts with a 1-year warranty whenever one is available.

A Route 66 town that kept its old houses
El Reno has been there since the land run era and spent most of the last century as a working railroad and highway town rather than a commuter suburb. Route 66 runs through it and so does the history: the downtown is largely intact, and so is a great deal of the housing around it.
That is why my service calls here look different from ones in Yukon or Mustang twenty minutes away. In a 1990s subdivision I am usually looking at an attic air handler and leaky flex. In El Reno I am as often in a crawlspace under a house older than anyone living in it, looking at duct that was retro-fitted decades ago. Canadian County is on my daily route either way.
Storm season matters here too. Hail flattens condenser fins and wind throws debris into the coil, and I would rather comb and clean a coil in April than replace a compressor in July. Geothermal in El Reno is its own page.

Nearly always airflow rather than capacity. Undersized returns, leaky or disconnected duct in a crawlspace, or a run that is simply too long for the static pressure available. Measuring static pressure answers it quickly, and it is a far cheaper answer than a bigger system that will not fix it.
Who is the electric company in El Reno, and are there HVAC rebates?
Inside El Reno you are most likely on OG&E, and OG&E’s Oklahoma residential rebates are closed for 2026, expected back in 2027. Out in the county many places are on CKenergy, whose 2026 geothermal rebate is $2,000 per ton up to $24,000, retrofits included. Read the name on your bill and I confirm the live program before quoting any amount.
My outdoor unit took hail damage in El Reno. Can it be fixed?
Often. Bent fins can usually be combed straight and the coil cleaned. A punctured coil or crushed tubing is a refrigerant repair or a coil replacement, and on an R-22 system, which is at least 16 years old by now, that is often where replacing makes more sense.
