Is it an emergency, or can it wait?
The first thing I tell a caller is whether it is a true emergency or something that can safely wait until morning. Gas smells and electrical issues: immediate. No heat below freezing: same day. Air conditioner out with young kids or elderly relatives in the house: urgent. Everything else, you get an honest read on the phone before I roll a truck.

What qualifies as an HVAC emergency?
- Gas smellLeave the home immediately, call your gas provider, then an HVAC professional. Do not attempt repairs yourself.

Four checks before you call
- Thermostat settingsRight mode, set past room temperature, fresh batteries.
- Air filterA clogged filter can shut a system down on a safety.
- BreakersLook for a tripped breaker, but do not reset it over and over.
- Outdoor unit clearNothing blocking it: leaves, debris, snow or ice buildup.

Why emergencies cluster here
Central Oklahoma swings fast: a hundred degrees for weeks, then a cold snap that drops twenty degrees overnight. Those extremes are when weak parts fail, and it is why my phone lights up in the first heat wave and the first hard freeze. Preventative maintenance catches most of it early. What a tune-up covers.
Sometimes an emergency breakdown shows you the bigger picture: an old system, one repair after another. When that is the case I tell you honestly whether the repair still makes sense or whether it is time to plan a replacement. I do not make more money steering you either way.

I spent five years as a volunteer firefighter in Watonga, up at 2 a.m. when the call came in. That is still how I think about an emergency call: somebody needs help now, so the answer is a straight one.

Is no air conditioning considered an emergency?
For a healthy adult in a well-ventilated home, a short outage usually is not. For elderly residents, young children or anyone with a heat-sensitive medical condition, an AC failure in Oklahoma summer heat is urgent, and I treat those calls that way.
What should I do if my furnace stops working at night?
Check the thermostat batteries and settings, then the breaker panel. If it will not restart and temperatures are below freezing or dropping fast, call. That is when waiting until morning can mean pipe damage that costs more than the repair.
How much does an emergency HVAC call cost?
After hours it is $198 dispatch plus a $111 diagnostic, $309 total and non-refundable, then the repair, quoted before any work. During business hours the standard call is $210.
How fast can you get to my house?
On most emergency calls in Kingfisher and the surrounding towns I am on site the same day. Outlying areas in Blaine, Canadian and Major counties take a little longer.
