Controllers of Your Comfort — Trane Connected Diagnostics
Most HVAC systems fail silently. Your equipment starts struggling weeks before you feel it — efficiency drops, fault codes accumulate, a component heads toward failure. By the time you notice the house isn’t comfortable, the problem has been building for a while. Trane’s connected diagnostic system changes that. Hartzell’s Heat & Air monitors your system in real time. In most cases, we know you have a problem before you do.
From preventative maintenance to predictive diagnostics.
Your Trane system reports its own health. We watch it. You just stay comfortable.
How It Works
Think of it like a security company monitoring your home — except instead of watching for intruders, we’re watching your HVAC system. Here’s what happens when you enroll:
- Your Trane thermostat connects to the Trane Home platform — The thermostat sends continuous system data: temperatures, runtime, fault codes, equipment performance, and more.
- You enroll in Trane Diagnostics once — A one-time opt-in through the free Trane Home app grants Hartzell’s access to your system’s data. You stay in control — you can see everything we see, and you approve any remote access request before we make changes.
- We monitor from our dealer portal — Hartzell’s sees real-time data for all enrolled systems. When the system flags an issue, we get an automatic alert.
- We reach out before you call — We contact you, explain what the data shows, and in most cases arrive with the right diagnosis and the right parts — because we already know what’s wrong.
What the System Reports
On a fully communicating Trane system (Trane Link or ComfortLink II), the data goes deep:
Fault & Alert Data
- Fault codes with severity classification (Critical / Major / Normal)
- Alert history with timestamps and runtime at time of fault
- Lockout events and reset history
- Low-pressure switch trips (refrigerant / airflow indicators)
- Ignition and flame sensor faults (furnaces)
Equipment Performance
- Compressor operating speed (variable speed units)
- Blower CFM — verified airflow delivery
- Coil temperature data
- Electronic expansion valve position
- Refrigerant pressure and charge status
System & Comfort Data
- Indoor temperature and humidity trends
- Runtime history and cycle frequency
- Filter change reminders
- Scheduled maintenance alerts
- Remote thermostat settings history
The Trane Home App — Your Side of the Picture
While Hartzell’s monitors from the dealer portal, you have the same view from the free Trane Home app (iOS and Android). The app lets you:
- Control and schedule your thermostat from anywhere
- Monitor indoor temperature and humidity in real time
- Receive your own alerts for filter changes and maintenance
- Approve or deny any Dealer Remote Access request — you stay in control
- Set geofencing to auto-adjust temperature when you leave and return
- Integrate with Amazon Alexa and Google Home voice control
Trane Diagnostics remote monitoring is free. There is no monthly fee for the diagnostic monitoring feature.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Hartzell’s know about my HVAC problem before I do?
When you enroll in Trane Diagnostics, your thermostat continuously transmits system data to a dealer monitoring portal. When the system detects a fault, Hartzell’s receives an automatic alert — often before you notice any change in comfort. We can diagnose remotely, then arrive already knowing what’s wrong and what parts to bring.
What is the Trane Home app?
The Trane Home app (formerly Nexia) is Trane’s free connected thermostat platform for homeowners. It lets you control your thermostat remotely, monitor conditions, receive alerts, and enroll in Trane Diagnostics dealer monitoring. Available free on iOS and Android.
What data does the system report?
On communicating Trane systems: fault codes with severity classification, compressor speed, blower airflow, coil temperatures, refrigerant pressure, runtime history, and maintenance reminders. On standard systems with an XL824: temperature data, malfunction alerts, and maintenance reminders.
Is there a cost for monitoring?
No. Trane Diagnostics remote monitoring is free for homeowners. One-time enrollment through the Trane Home app. No monthly fee for the diagnostic feature.
Which Trane thermostats support this?
The Trane UX360 (current Trane Link generation), ComfortLink II XL1050, ComfortLink II XL850, and XL824. For the deepest diagnostics, a fully communicating system is required. The XL824 provides connectivity and monitoring with any standard HVAC equipment.
