OG&E on most of it, Edmond on its own
Most of northwest Oklahoma County is OG&E, whose Oklahoma residential rebates are closed for 2026. Edmond is different: Edmond runs its own municipal electric utility and participates in the OMPA WISE heat pump program, so an Edmond address can have options an OKC address two miles away does not. Same metro, different rules.

What changed on new equipment
New systems now ship with R-454B or R-32 instead of R-410A. Both are mildly flammable A2L refrigerants, both cost meaningfully more per pound than R-410A did, and both need the right recovery equipment and handling. I stock and work on both, and I will tell you which one your new system uses before you buy it.
On an older R-410A or R-22 system the question is usually whether to keep repairing it. I look at age, the failure and what else is tired, then tell you what I would do if it were my house. Hard water is what kills them here
Oklahoma hard water runs about 15 to 25 grains per gallon across my service area. That sediment settles in the bottom of the tank, insulates the burner or the element from the water it is supposed to heat, and shortens the life of the whole thing. The credentials, and what they are for
I am Dave Hartzell. I started in this trade at sixteen and a half working for my dad, which puts me at 47 years, and I have run my own shop in Kingfisher for 15+ years. I am not a franchise and I am not a call center. When I say I will look at it, I am the one looking at it.
What northwest Oklahoma County is built out of
Northwest Oklahoma County is where the metro stops being dense suburb and starts being semi rural: Bethany, Warr Acres, the Yukon fringe and the unincorporated stretches along US 270 and NW 23rd.
The housing stock runs heavily to the 1960s through 1980s build out. That means original ductwork, equipment that has been patched one time too many, and undersized return air. Return air is the thing nobody thinks about and the thing that quietly ruins comfort in half these houses.
Plenty of these homes have been remodeled since, which is where multi zone systems come in. A 1968 ranch with a 2015 kitchen addition rarely heats and cools evenly on the ductwork it was born with.

Why does my remodeled 1970s house never feel even?
Almost always return air. Somebody added square footage and nobody added a return path, so the system cannot move air back to itself. I measure static pressure before recommending equipment.
