What a ductless mini-split actually is
A ductless mini-split heats and cools a room or zone directly, with no ductwork. An outdoor unit connects to one or more indoor heads through a small refrigerant line that passes through a hole about the size of a soda can. Each zone runs its own temperature, so you heat or cool exactly where you need it and nothing else. The wall-mounted head is the one I install most in Oklahoma.
Mitsubishi’s Hyper-Heat models keep heating down to minus 13 degrees, which covers anything an Oklahoma winter throws at you, and the indoor heads are quiet enough for a bedroom. One system handles both seasons.
What separates a good install from a callback usually comes down to three things: a real load calculation instead of a rule of thumb, a line set routed and covered so sun and weed-eaters cannot get to it, and warranty registration done at startup, which is what activates the extended 12-year Diamond Dealer parts and compressor coverage, registered inside 90 days on a single-family home. Where do ductless systems make the most sense?
Sunrooms, upstairs bedrooms, shops, mother-in-law suites, and any area the main system cannot reach well.
Are they efficient in summer and winter?
Modern inverter models modulate to the load. With proper sizing and line set work they perform well in both seasons, and Hyper-Heat units keep heating down to minus 13 F.
How loud are the indoor heads?
Most run quietly on low to medium fan. I set the fan and vane modes so you get comfort without drafts.
Can I control rooms separately?
Yes. Multi-zone systems let each room run its own temperature and schedule.
Do they need special maintenance?
Keep the filters clean and schedule coil cleanings. I also check drain lines, charge and communication cables every year.
Do mini-splits work in an Oklahoma winter?

Why is water dripping from my mini-split head?
Usually a clogged or poorly sloped condensate drain, or a dirty coil and filter. It is one of the most common mini-split calls I run.
What does a mini-split error code mean?
Mitsubishi systems display a code when something goes wrong. It points me to the fault before I open the unit, so write it down when you call.
