Mitsubishi Ceiling Cassette Mini-Split Installation — Oklahoma
When someone wants a mini-split but doesn’t want to see it on the wall, the ceiling cassette is the answer. It sits flush in the ceiling, pushes air in four directions, and practically disappears into the room. I install these in open living areas, commercial spaces, and remodels where appearance matters as much as performance.
Mitsubishi ceiling cassette mini-splits mount flush in the ceiling with 360-degree airflow — ideal for open floor plans and commercial spaces. Diamond Dealer installation from $2,800. Call 405-375-4822 for a free estimate.

Is a Ceiling Cassette Right for Your Space?
- Do you have an open floor plan that needs even airflow across a large area?
- Is wall space limited — lots of windows, built-ins, or a tight layout?
- Is this a remodel or commercial space where aesthetics matter?
- Do you have 10+ inches of plenum space above the ceiling?
- Do you want HVAC equipment to completely disappear from view?
If yes to most of these — a ceiling cassette is built for your situation.
How a Ceiling Cassette Works
The cassette installs between ceiling joists and connects to an outdoor compressor via a small refrigerant line run through the ceiling or wall. A flush trim panel is the only visible component. Air is drawn in from the center and distributed through 4 directional vanes — you can run all 4 directions, select 2 or 3, or lock one direction off depending on room layout. The built-in condensate pump handles moisture removal automatically.
Mitsubishi Ceiling Cassette Models
| Series | BTU Range | Airflow | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| MLZ (ducted cassette) | 9K-18K BTU | 4-way | Residential rooms, offices |
| SLZ (ceiling cassette) | 9K-24K BTU | 4-way | Commercial, open plans |
| PLFY (multi-zone cassette) | 6K-36K BTU | 4-way | Multi-zone commercial/residential |
What to Know Before Installation
- Ceiling access required — we need to get above the ceiling to run the refrigerant line and confirm joist placement
- Plenum space — 10-12 inches minimum above the ceiling panel
- Electrical — a dedicated 240V circuit is required; we assess your panel during the estimate
- Condensate — the built-in pump needs a drain path to an exterior wall
- Line set routing — planned before installation day
Frequently Asked Questions — Mitsubishi Ceiling Cassette
What is a ceiling cassette mini-split and how does it differ from a wall mount?
A ceiling cassette mounts flush into the ceiling — you see only a trim panel, not a box on the wall. It distributes air in 4 directions instead of one. Right choice when you want the unit to disappear or when wall space is limited.
How much does a Mitsubishi ceiling cassette cost installed in Oklahoma?
Ceiling cassette installations start around $2,800-$3,500 for a single zone. Multi-zone cassette setups run $5,500-$12,000 depending on zones and BTU size. Call 405-375-4822 for a free estimate.
Does my ceiling need special framing for a ceiling cassette?
The cassette needs to fit between ceiling joists — standard 16-inch or 24-inch OC framing usually works. We need 10-12 inches of plenum space above the ceiling. Drop ceilings are ideal. We assess this during the free estimate visit.
What rooms work best with a ceiling cassette?
Open floor plans are the ideal application — living rooms, great rooms, commercial spaces, restaurants, conference rooms, and large shop areas where you want even airflow across the entire space. The 4-way distribution eliminates hot and cold spots.
Does a ceiling cassette heat as well as it cools?
Yes. Like all Mitsubishi units, the cassette is a heat pump. One consideration: heat rises, so a ceiling unit has to push warm air downward. Mitsubishi cassettes handle this well with adjustable vane angles. In very tall cathedral ceiling spaces you may want to pair with a floor mount.
How is the condensate drain handled on a ceiling cassette?
Ceiling cassettes require a condensate pump to remove moisture that collects during cooling. The pump pushes condensate through a small drain line to an exterior wall or floor drain. We size and install the pump as part of the installation — it’s not optional.
Can I control a ceiling cassette with my phone?
Yes. Mitsubishi’s kumo cloud system allows Wi-Fi control from your phone. You can also integrate with SmartThings, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home. The wireless remote handles day-to-day operation but smart control is available.
How often does a ceiling cassette filter need cleaning?
The washable filters should be cleaned every 4-6 weeks during heavy-use seasons. The unit displays a filter indicator light when it’s time. The cassette panel hinges down and the filter slides out. Annual maintenance should include a coil inspection and condensate pump check.
Is a ceiling cassette good for a commercial space?
It’s one of the best options for light commercial. The flush ceiling appearance is professional, 4-way airflow handles large open areas evenly, and quiet operation matters in customer-facing spaces. We’ve installed cassettes in offices, waiting rooms, retail spaces, and small restaurants.
What warranty comes with a Mitsubishi ceiling cassette installed by Hartzell’s?
12-year parts and labor warranty through the Diamond Dealer program — more than double the standard 5-year Mitsubishi warranty. Activates when we register the equipment at startup. No extra cost.
