Frequently Asked Questions

What does the HVAC technician interview at Hartzell’s involve?

A conversation with me, Dave, in the Kingfisher shop. I want to hear about your hands-on work, the tools you own, and the kinds of systems you’ve seen. No corporate panel, no scripted questions.

Do I need EPA 608 certification to apply?

Yes, for any tech role you need EPA 608 (Universal preferred). If you’re close but not certified yet, tell me anyway. I’ll consider candidates who are clearly working toward it.

How long is the interview process?

Usually one shop visit, about an hour. If we’re a fit, I’ll get back to you within a few days with an offer or a clear no.

What should I bring to the interview?

A list of tools you own, your EPA card if you have it, and any NATE or manufacturer training certs. Work boots are fine. I’m looking for technicians, not suits.

Does Hartzell’s hire apprentices or only experienced techs?

Both. There’s a separate internship program for entry-level. For experienced installer and service tech roles, I want at least a few years in residential HVAC.
