Cashion, Oklahoma: Named for a Man Who Charged San Juan Hill

Roy Cashion was from Hennessey. He enlisted, went to Cuba, and died charging up San Juan Hill on July 1, 1898. This town was named for him, not for a founder or a railroad official. That is unusual. Most Oklahoma towns are named for whoever owned the land or built the first grain elevator. Cashion is named for a man who died for his country in one of the most famous military charges in American history.

Before it was Cashion it was “Downs,” and there was actually a bill introduced to make Downs the territorial capital of Oklahoma. Governor Steele vetoed it. Guthrie got the capital instead. Then in 1900, the Santa Fe and Rock Island railroads agreed to meet at a new townsite, merchants picked up and moved, and Cashion became the town it is today. The railroad decided everything in those years.

The homes in Cashion are mostly early 20th century farmhouses and post-WWII builds, with some newer construction on the edges. It sits right on the Kingfisher-Logan County line. I service both sides of that line and there is no difference in the service call. Call 405-375-4822.

Utility Rebates in Cashion
