Geothermal vs Trane 18 SEER Calculator
The honest premium-vs-premium comparison, from a dealer who sells both

I install ClimateMaster geothermal and I am also a Trane TCS SELECT dealer, so I am not comparing geothermal against some builder-grade unit to make it look good. This calculator sets my ClimateMaster Tranquility geothermal system, with a water desuperheater, against a Trane 18 SEER air-source heat pump, the best of what I sell on each side. Punch in your numbers and see where they actually land.

Compare Your Home

How this is modeled, plain and up front: electric rate $0.12/kWh. Trane modeled at 18 SEER cooling and 9.5 HSPF heating, a representative premium variable-speed air-source heat pump rating, not a specific published spec for one model. ClimateMaster Tranquility modeled at EER 24 cooling and a heating COP of 4.2 (the line is rated up to 4.5, I use a more conservative number here). Oklahoma heating and cooling load split modeled 45 percent heating, 55 percent cooling. These are estimates. I run a real Manual J load calculation at your house before any number becomes a quote.

These are modeled estimates built from published-style SEER, HSPF, EER, and COP ratings and Oklahoma average energy prices, not a quote for your specific equipment. Actual results depend on your home’s insulation, ductwork, orientation, usage, and your utility’s current rate and rebate. A Manual J load calculation, which I include with every free estimate, gives you the real number. Full county-by-county rebate detail: Oklahoma geothermal rebates 2026. Why I Compare Geothermal Against My Own Trane 18 SEER, Not a Cheap Unit

Most geothermal savings pitches compare against whatever is cheapest to beat. I do not need to do that. I am a Trane TCS SELECT dealer and a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, so the Trane 18 SEER in this calculator is a system I stand behind and would happily install in my own house. When geothermal still comes out ahead against that, on Oklahoma’s real winters and real summers, it is because the ground stays around 60 degrees year round while outdoor air swings from single digits to over 100. An air-source heat pump, even a very good one, has to fight that swing. Geothermal does not.

The honest tradeoff: geothermal costs more to install because of the ground loop, and there is real disruption in the yard while I drill or trench it in. Utility rebates and the desuperheater’s hot water offset help close that gap, and financing spreads it out further. Whether it pencils out for your house depends on your rate, your usage, and how long you plan to stay. I will tell you straight if a Trane makes more sense for your situation.

How much does a geothermal system save compared to a Trane 18 SEER heat pump in Oklahoma?

In this calculator, modeled savings against my Trane 18 SEER line land around 30 percent on blended heating and cooling energy, because I am comparing two premium systems I actually install, not geothermal against a cheap builder-grade unit. Compared to an older heat pump or a gas furnace, the gap is bigger, often close to half. Run your own numbers above.

Is ClimateMaster Tranquility better than a Trane 18 SEER heat pump?

I sell both and I am a dealer for both, a Trane TCS SELECT dealer and a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer. Tranquility geothermal draws off stable ground temperature instead of outdoor air, so it holds its efficiency on the coldest Oklahoma nights when an air-source heat pump like the Trane is working hardest. The tradeoff is a higher install cost and a loop dig in the yard.

What does a geothermal desuperheater do for hot water?

It captures heat the system is already rejecting while the compressor runs and uses it to preheat your water heater. Conservatively, that is 20 to 30 percent off a typical $500-a-year electric water heating bill, mostly during cooling season. The Trane 18 SEER has no equivalent, it is a Tranquility-only advantage.

How much does geothermal cost compared to a Trane 18 SEER system in Kingfisher Oklahoma?

Geothermal costs more up front, mainly the ground loop. In the 7 counties I run daily, utility rebates can bring $600 to $4,000 back depending on your utility, and I handle that paperwork. The exact number needs a real in-home estimate, this calculator is a starting point, not a quote.

Can I finance a geothermal system with $0 down in Oklahoma?

For qualified homeowners, Hartzell can review the ClimateMaster Geothermal Comfort Plan powered by Palmetto. Approved examples show $0 upfront and 120 monthly payments, but site numbers are illustrations only, not a quote or approval. Final payment, tax, rebate, buyout, coverage, renewal, and eligibility terms come from Palmetto and the agreement. I also work with Synchrony, Wells Fargo, Wisetack, Klarna, and JB Financing for repairs, PMAs, or a Trane system instead.

Is there a federal tax credit for geothermal in 2026?

No for residential 2026 installs. Current IRS guidance says the residential clean energy credit is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Oklahoma utility rebates may still apply when the utility and project qualify, and I handle the paperwork I can verify.

Free Geothermal vs Trane Estimate

I will run a real Manual J load calculation, quote both a ClimateMaster Tranquility geothermal system and a Trane 18 SEER heat pump for your house, and tell you honestly which one makes more sense. No pressure.
