Geothermal Savings Calculator — See what geothermal saves you each year in Oklahoma
Before anyone commits to a geothermal system, they want to know one thing: is it worth it financially? This calculator gives you a real estimate based on Oklahoma energy costs, your current fuel type, and your home size. I have been doing these load calculations for 47 years and the savings are real. Just enter your details below.

These are estimates based on Oklahoma average energy prices (electric $0.12/kWh, propane $1.80/gal, natural gas $1.20/therm) and typical system efficiency ratings. Actual savings depend on your home’s insulation, usage patterns, and local utility rates. A proper Manual J load calculation gives you exact figures.
Why Geothermal Saves So Much in Oklahoma
The efficiency gap is real. A standard air conditioner runs at SEER 14-16 — geothermal runs at the equivalent of SEER 24-40. In Oklahoma’s climate, where you are running cooling from May through October and heating from November through March, that efficiency difference adds up fast. I have customers who cut their bills by more than half.
The other factor nobody talks about: Oklahoma has excellent ground temperatures for geothermal. Our soil stabilizes at around 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit below the frost line. That is the sweet spot for a ground-source heat pump. We do not have the rocky conditions that make drilling expensive in other states. Oklahoma clay drills well and holds heat well.
How accurate is this calculator?
It uses Oklahoma average energy prices and typical system efficiency ratings. For most homes, the estimate is within 15-20% of actual savings. A proper Manual J load calculation gives you exact figures based on your home’s insulation, windows, orientation, and local utility rates. I include that in every free estimate.
Does geothermal really save 40-60% on energy bills?
For homes replacing electric resistance heat, propane, or an older heat pump: yes. Geothermal heat pumps have a COP (coefficient of performance) of 4.0 or higher — meaning for every unit of electricity you put in, you get 4 units of heat out. Standard heat pumps run around 2.0-3.0. Electric resistance is 1.0. The math is straightforward.
What is the payback period for geothermal in Oklahoma?
With CKenergy or OGE rebates, most homes see full payback in 7-12 years. Without rebates, 10-15 years. After payback, you are running on low-cost geothermal for 25+ years. The loop field lasts 50 or more years.
