I am Dave Hartzell, 47 years in this trade, IGSHPA accredited and a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer. Trilogy sits at the top of the ClimateMaster line and Tranquility sits under it. I install both. This page is for the homeowner deciding whether the top of the line earns the difference, and it is honest about the times it does not.
Range rated, and why that one phrase is the whole story
Almost every piece of heating and cooling equipment sold in Oklahoma is sold by tonnage. A ton is a unit of capacity, not weight, and if that is a new idea start with what a ton of geothermal actually means. You run a load calculation, you get a number, and you buy the box nearest that number. That box has one output. It is on, or it is off.
The Trilogy 45 is not sold that way. Its rated capacity is a span rather than a single point, and the machine varies its output to land somewhere inside that span. So the question stops being which size box and becomes where inside its range does this house sit, hour by hour.
I am not printing that span here, and the reason is not coyness. The capacity that applies to your house depends on the configuration, the loop and the conditions the unit is rated at, and it is published in the submittal for that exact configuration. I pull the performance data for the unit on your quote and hand it to you before you sign anything. A number typed onto a web page is not a specification.
A fixed size box is right for a few hours a year
A load calculation sizes for the worst day. That is correct, and it also means the number is exactly right for a handful of hours a year. The rest of the time your house needs a fraction of what the equipment can make.
A single speed machine has one answer to that: run flat out until the thermostat is satisfied, shut off, wait, do it again. That is cycling. Every startup is the least efficient part of a run, and the temperature saws up and down around the setpoint instead of sitting on it. Oklahoma is harder on that than the brochures assume. A 100 degree afternoon and a 60 degree morning in the same week is normal here, and a box with one output answers both the same way.
Three things modulating buys, in the order homeowners notice them
- Even temperature. A machine that can settle at partial capacity runs long and low instead of hard and short. The swing around the setpoint gets small enough that you stop noticing the system at all, which is the point.
- Humidity, the one Oklahoma homeowners underestimate. Moisture leaves the air at the coil, and pulling it out takes runtime. A short hard blast drops the temperature, satisfies the thermostat, shuts off and leaves the water behind. That is where cool and clammy comes from. Long low output runtime is what actually dries a house.
- Quiet, and less wear. Fewer starts, lower average output, and the whole machine living indoors out of the hail and the sun.
Runtime is the thread through all three. A conventional system treats runtime as a cost. A modulating machine treats it as the delivery method.
Range rated equipment gets quoted per job, not off a ladder
Because capacity is a range instead of a rung on a ladder, there is no such thing as the Trilogy 45 price. The proposal depends on the load calculation, the loop design your lot will actually support, the ductwork you already have, and what you want the system to do about hot water.

Q-Mode, and the hot water argument
The Trilogy line is where ClimateMaster’s hot water story lives. A desuperheater recovers heat the system is already moving and sends it to the water heater, mostly a summer bonus. Where the Trilogy 45 is not the right answer
Geothermal is a premium purchase and the Trilogy is the premium end of it. It costs more up front than a conventional system and more than a Tranquility. It earns that back through what it does not spend, and I will show you the math on your own house rather than a generic payback chart.
The Trilogy 45 is excluded from the Palmetto lease program. Cash or conventional financing only. I would rather you hear that in the first conversation than find it out three weeks in. Conventional financing runs through the lenders I already work with: Synchrony, Wells Fargo, Wisetack, Klarna and JB Financing.
And sometimes a Tranquility is the better buy. If the ductwork is undersized, or the budget is tight enough that a compromise loop is the only way to reach the top of the line, the money belongs in the loop and the duct. A modest machine on a right loop beats the best machine on a wrong one, every time.
