HVAC Services in Major County, OK

I’m Dave Hartzell, and I’ve been driving out to Major County for years — Fairview, Ringwood, Cleo Springs, and every small community in between. Most contractors won’t come this far. I do, because farmhouse HVAC in the Red Bed Plains is its own specialty and the people out here deserve someone who knows what they’re doing. 4.8 stars / 276 reviews. Call 405-375-4822.

Major County, Oklahoma: A Little History

Major County didn’t become Major County until Oklahoma statehood in 1907. Before that, it was the southern half of Woods County. At statehood it was carved out and named for John Charles Major, a county resident who served as a delegate to the 1906 Oklahoma Constitutional Convention. It’s one of the few Oklahoma counties named for a private citizen rather than a president, a general, or a Native American leader. The man who gave the county its name lived here, farmed here, and then helped write the state’s founding document.

The land itself opened September 16, 1893, in the Cherokee Outlet run — the same day that created Garfield County and Enid. Fairview became the county seat in 1908 after winning an election over Cleo Springs, Orienta, and Ringwood. The Cimarron River valley view that Adam Bower saw when he named his homestead “Fairview” is still there. The 1928 stone courthouse is still the county’s landmark building. Some things in Major County don’t change much.

Cleo Springs takes its name from Cle-oh-i-to-mo — a legendary American Indian maiden said to be from the Coronado expedition era of 1541. That’s a name with 400 years of history attached to it. By 1909, Cleo Springs had a mill, an elevator, blacksmiths, harness makers, two banks, an opera house, and a weekly newspaper. It lost the county seat vote to Fairview and never quite recovered its early prominence. Ringwood was “ringed by woods” when the first postmaster named it. Longdale was named after a man named Long, whose wife donated 160 acres of homestead land to a townsite company. All three towns are still there — small, quiet, wheat country.

The Glass Mountains sit in western Major County: selenite crystal bluffs that catch the afternoon sun and appear to glow. The gypsum geology that creates them runs through Blaine County too. It’s the same Red Bed Plains geology that makes horizontal geothermal loop fields viable out here — good consistent soil temperatures below the frost line. Major County is the western edge of my regular territory. I drive out because not many qualified contractors will, and because the work is real and the people here have the same right to working heat and air as anyone closer to town.

Cities & Communities We Serve in Major County

Fairview — County Seat

Fairview is where most of our Major County calls come from — new system replacements, service calls on aging equipment, and the occasional geothermal consultation. The county seat has a mix of older ranch-style homes and newer builds. We’re usually there within 45 minutes of Kingfisher.

Ringwood

A small farming community southeast of Fairview. Many homes here run propane furnaces — we service and replace them. Mini-splits are a popular upgrade for detached shops and garages where running new ductwork doesn’t make sense.

Cleo Springs

Cleo Springs sits in the heart of wheat country. Older housing stock means we frequently find undersized equipment, deteriorated ductwork, and refrigerant leaks that have gone unattended for years. A proper tune-up here can make a real difference in utility bills.

Longdale

Longdale is a small community in the eastern part of Major County near Canton Lake. Rural properties here often run older package units or propane systems. We service all brands and carry common parts so we rarely need a second trip.

Meno & Ames

We also serve smaller communities like Meno and Ames on a regular basis. No job is too far out — if you’re in Major County, you’re in our service area. Call us and we’ll give you an honest arrival window.

Major County HVAC Challenges

I’ve been driving out to Major County for years, and there are a few things that make HVAC work out here different from a standard residential call closer to town.

💨 High Winds & Airborne Debris

Oklahoma wind is relentless in Major County. Condenser coils clog fast with cottonwood, chaff, and dust. I recommend an annual coil cleaning here more than almost anywhere else in our service area — a dirty coil in 100° heat will kill a compressor prematurely.

🏠 Older Rural Housing Stock

Many homes in Major County were built in the 1950s–70s — minimal insulation, drafty windows, and ductwork that was sized for equipment long since replaced. We always check static pressure and duct leakage before recommending a new system, because oversizing an undersized envelope just creates a new set of problems.

🛢️ Propane Systems

Natural gas doesn’t reach most of Major County, so propane is the rule. We service and replace propane furnaces, and we’re increasingly installing heat pumps as a way to reduce propane consumption. A properly sized heat pump can cover heating down to the low 20s before the backup strips ever kick in.

📍 Rural Service Distance

We’re honest about drive time — Major County is a long run from Kingfisher. That’s why we stock a broad inventory of common parts and filters, and we confirm parts availability before we roll. Our goal is a single-trip resolution every time. A maintenance plan also makes scheduling easier when you’re 45+ miles from the shop.

More Major County HVAC Questions

Do you service propane furnaces in Major County?

Yes — propane is the primary heating fuel across most of Major County, and we service and replace propane furnaces on a regular basis. We also install heat pumps for homeowners who want to reduce their propane usage. A dual-fuel system (heat pump + propane backup) is often the most cost-effective solution out here.

How do high winds affect my HVAC system in Major County?

Wind drives cottonwood fluff, wheat chaff, and fine dust directly into your condenser coils. A coil that’s even 20% blocked will cause your system to work significantly harder — raising your electric bill and shortening compressor life. We recommend scheduling a coil cleaning every spring before cooling season kicks in, especially for homes on open acreage.

Is geothermal a good fit for rural Major County properties?

Geothermal can be an excellent fit — especially for larger properties with land for horizontal loop fields. With propane prices volatile, eliminating most of your heating fuel cost is compelling. We do full geothermal installations and are ClimateMaster GeoElite and IGSHPA certified. Call us to discuss your property and get a realistic cost/benefit picture.

About Major County, Oklahoma

Major County is rural western Oklahoma at its most open — wheat fields, Fairview as the county seat, the Cimarron River valley, and the energy fields around Ringwood and Cleo Springs. It’s a long haul from most HVAC contractors, which means homeowners out here often run equipment past its useful life because getting anyone qualified to drive out is a project. I cover Major County because the territory deserves someone who knows what they’re doing. There’s no CKenergy or OG&E rebate program in Major County, but geothermal is still economically sound on acreage properties — 300–500% efficiency and a ground loop that outlasts anything conventional. If you’re on 5+ acres in Major County, horizontal loops are almost always an option.
