Waukomis, Oklahoma: Built Fast, Burned Once, Kept Going

Waukomis was part of the German immigrant wave into Garfield County after the 1893 Cherokee Outlet land run. By 1902, just nine years after the run, the town had a bank, two flour mill and grain elevator operations, two restaurants, a blacksmith, and a harness dealer. That is a functioning commercial district built from bare land in less than a decade. German and Czech farm families built it, and they built it with the same discipline that had made their communities work in Russia and Kansas before they came to Oklahoma.

In 1903 a fire destroyed half the buildings. They rebuilt. At statehood in 1907, Waukomis had 570 people. The town never became large, but it held on as the kind of place where a farming community has what it needs. That is still what it is today.

The homes in Waukomis are mostly farm-era construction with some newer builds. I service the Garfield County area including Waukomis from Kingfisher. Call 405-375-4822.

Is geothermal worth it in Waukomis?

Garfield County clay soils are good for geothermal vertical and horizontal installations. With utility rebates still active in 2026, geothermal is often the best long-term investment for Waukomis homeowners who plan to stay in their home 10+ years. Call for a free no-obligation estimate — we’ll walk your property and tell you honestly if geothermal makes sense for your specific situation.

Waukomis, Oklahoma: On the US-81 Corridor Between Enid and Kingfisher

Waukomis sits right on the US-81 corridor about halfway between Enid and Kingfisher — and I know this stretch of road well after 15+ years of making service runs up and down it. It’s classic central Oklahoma: exposed flatland with no relief from summer heat or winter north winds, and a mix of older farmhouses and newer acreage homes that have very different HVAC needs. A 1970s brick ranch with original ductwork needs a very different approach than a 2010 build with spray foam insulation, and I take the time to assess both rather than slapping in a replacement and calling it done.

Waukomis is served by PSO (Public Service Company of Oklahoma) in portions of Garfield County, with PSO offering $1,400 flat or $350–$525 per ton on qualifying geothermal installations. Waukomis homeowners with adequate yard space are excellent geothermal candidates — the Garfield County clay soils hold thermal energy well for both horizontal and vertical loop designs. I’m IGSHPA accredited and a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, and I’ve installed geo systems within a short drive of Waukomis. A free site visit will tell you whether geo works for your property and what the real payback looks like. Call 405-375-4822 to get started.

More Questions About HVAC Service in Waukomis

How far is Hartzell’s from Waukomis and how quickly can you respond?

We’re based in Kingfisher, about 25 miles south on US-81 — typically a 25–30 minute drive. We run regular service calls up the 81 corridor and can often offer same-day scheduling. For emergencies, call 405-375-4822 any time and we’ll give you an honest estimated arrival time for your situation.

What HVAC systems work best for older homes in Waukomis?

For older Waukomis homes with existing ductwork, a two-stage heat pump or high-efficiency gas furnace paired with a proper duct inspection is usually the best value. If the existing ductwork has significant leakage — very common in 1970s–1980s construction — we’ll identify that in our diagnostic before recommending a full replacement. For homes on propane, a geothermal conversion often makes strong financial sense given today’s propane prices. We’ll model the options for your specific home.

Can I get a ductless mini-split installed in Waukomis?

Yes — ductless mini-splits are excellent for Waukomis homes with additions, garages, sunrooms, or areas that existing ductwork doesn’t reach effectively. As a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor, we design, install, and warrant multi-zone mini-split systems to manufacturer standards. Call 405-375-4822 and we’ll assess your space and give you a written quote.

About Waukomis, Oklahoma

Waukomis sits on US-81 between Enid and Kingfisher — about 25 miles north of my shop, a stretch of road I know well after 15+ years of service runs. It’s OG&E territory: $1,000/ton geothermal rebate and up to $3,000 on qualifying HVAC replacement ($1,500 per unit). The housing stock is a mix of older farmhouses with original ductwork and newer acreage builds — very different HVAC needs. I approach each on its own merits rather than running the same swap-out on every job. Call 405-375-4822.
