What Money Is Actually on the Table for Geothermal in Oklahoma

Utility rebates, five lenders, and a $0 upfront plan.

I am Dave Hartzell, 47 years in this trade. Here is the money that is really available for a geothermal system in Oklahoma right now, and how I check it for your address before it goes on an estimate.

I would rather lose the sale than let somebody plan around money that is not there, so everything below is something I can confirm for your address before it goes on paper.

Geothermal rebates that are open right now

These are the utility rebates for a geothermal system in my counties, as each utility posts them (checked October 2026). Which one you get depends on who sends your electric bill.

1. Utility rebates.

  • CKenergy (Blaine, Canadian): $2,000 per ton, up to $24,000, new or retrofit.
  • Alfalfa Electric (Garfield, Major): $1,050 per ton.
  • City utilities in the WISE program (Kingfisher, Watonga, Geary, Okeene, Fairview, Edmond, Goltry): up to $800 per cooling ton. Your town elects its own level, and the system needs a desuperheater or integrated water heater, which I design in from the start.
  • Oklahoma Electric Cooperative: $750 per ton, up to 5 tons, on OEC’s posted rebate sheet.
  • Cimarron Electric (Kingfisher area): $600, with a $1,200 cap per member per home per year.
  • Northwestern Electric (parts of Major): $250 per ton new or converting from gas, $150 per ton replacing electric.
  • OG&E: residential rebates are paused and return in 2027.

Amounts are each utility’s posted ceiling, not a promise. Tell me your ZIP and your electric company, and the office checks the current program before an amount goes on your estimate. Call 405-375-4822.

2. Real financing. Synchrony runs up to 18 months at 0 percent. I also work with Wells Fargo, Wisetack, Klarna and JB Financing, which works with credit scores as low as 590 on a soft pull. Those five are the only lenders I use. More on geothermal financing in Oklahoma.

3. Hartzell’s Full Coverage Geothermal Plan. A 10-year lease with $0 upfront and one monthly payment, with the system, loop, install, controls, maintenance, filters, repairs and service labor covered under the contract’s terms. It is a lease, so there is an end-of-term buyout if you want to own it. See the Full Coverage Geothermal Plan.

Commercial geothermal is a completely different section of the tax code and that credit is still very much alive, which I cover on the commercial geothermal tax credit page.

The honest part

Geothermal is a premium purchase. It costs more up front than a standard system. What it buys is a machine that moves heat instead of making it, on a loop field that outlasts the equipment. I will show you the real numbers for your house, and if it does not pencil for you, I will tell you that.

For geothermal, I travel across Oklahoma and past the state line

For geothermal I travel across Oklahoma and into most of the states that border it, depending on the customer and the project. I have run geothermal jobs in Kingfisher, Okarche, Hennessey, Watonga, Dover, Piedmont, Edmond, Yukon, El Reno, Guthrie, Enid and Oklahoma City, and I have driven as far as Lawton, Broken Bow and Durant for a customer who wanted it. One shop, in Kingfisher, and I drive.

Master HVAC licensed. IGSHPA accredited, the geothermal credential. ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer. Insured through Federated Insurance, workman’s comp and general liability. 47 years in the trade, 15+ years running my own shop, 4.8 stars and 300+ Google reviews.

Questions I get on this call

Is there still a federal tax credit for geothermal in Oklahoma in 2026?

Not for a residential system. The IRS states the credit is not available for any property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Commercial is a different section of the code and still alive. I am not a tax professional, so take your situation to your CPA and read the current IRS guidance. What is available: municipal utility rebates, five lenders, and the Full Coverage Geothermal Plan. Call 405-375-4822 with your electric bill handy.

I paid for my system in 2025. Do I still get the credit?

The test is when the system was placed in service, not when you paid. Paid in 2025 and finished in 2026 is the exact case that catches people. Your CPA confirms your situation.

So what money is actually left for geothermal in Oklahoma?

Municipal utility rebates if your town sends your electric bill, up to 18 months at 0 percent through Synchrony, and the Full Coverage Geothermal Plan with $0 upfront. Have your electric bill handy and call 405-375-4822 and I will tell you in a few minutes which of those apply to your address.
