He became a U.S. Army scout and interpreter during the Indian Wars. His Cheyenne heritage gave him access to people and situations that white scouts could not reach. He helped negotiate treaties, translate in camps, read situations that could have turned violent. The town is named Geary because Americans could not pronounce Guerrier. That Cheyenne-French-American name is right there on the map.
