Apprentice HVAC Installer FAQ

What does an HVAC apprentice installer do day to day in Oklahoma City?

I have my apprentices riding with a lead installer on real jobs from day one. You’ll be carrying equipment, running line sets and low voltage wire, setting condensers on pads, brazing copper, pulling vacuums, and learning duct fabrication and sealing. Mornings start at the shop in Kingfisher around 7:30, then we roll out to the job. You learn by doing, with me or a lead installer watching every cut and every connection.

How much does an HVAC apprentice make in Oklahoma City?

I start apprentices at $16 to $20 an hour depending on experience and attitude, with raises every 90 days as skills check out. Once you can run a residential change-out solo and pass your EPA 608, you move to journeyman pay, usually $24 to $30 an hour. Overtime is paid at time and a half, and I pay weekly. Full benefits kick in at 90 days.

How long is an HVAC apprenticeship before you become a journeyman?

Plan on 2 to 3 years to journeyman if you show up every day and pay attention. Oklahoma requires 3 years of documented HVAC field work plus the journeyman exam to get the state license. I sign off on your hours every quarter so your paperwork stays clean. Faster learners with vo-tech credit can compress the timeline.

What schooling do I need to apply for an HVAC apprentice job?

A high school diploma or GED is the floor. I prefer applicants who went through Autry Technology Center in Enid or an OSU vo-tech HVAC program, because they already know refrigeration basics and tool safety. If you didn’t go that route, I still want to talk. Show up, be teachable, hold a clean driver’s license, and pass a drug test. I’ll teach the rest.

How do I apply for an HVAC apprentice job with Hartzell’s Heat and Air?

Call or text me at 405-375-4822, or fill out the application on this page. I read every one myself. If your background fits, I’ll bring you in for a sit-down at the Kingfisher shop, no suit required. I run a small crew with 4.8 stars and 276 Google reviews, and I hire slow on purpose. Serious applicants only.
