Oklahoma has three different utility worlds

Which one you are on changes your geothermal rebate by thousands: a municipal utility where your town sends the bill runs the program on this page, an electric cooperative runs its own, and an investor owned utility is a third thing again, with OG&E residential rebates closed for 2026.

Here is the part that trips people up. It is who sends the bill, not which county you live in. A rural meter can sit on a co-op while a meter inside town limits is served by the town. Same county, two different programs.

No desuperheater, no rebate

This requirement kills more of these rebates than anything else, and almost nobody knows about it until it is too late.

The system has to have at least one operating integrated water heater or desuperheater doing your domestic water heating. That is a condition of the rebate, not an upsell.

So I design it in from the start, when I lay out your system, which is the only point where it is easy. A desuperheater takes heat the system is already moving and sends it to your water heater instead of throwing it away, so it earns its keep before you ever count the rebate. Here is what a desuperheater actually is.

Is my town in it?

Kingfisher, Okeene, Watonga and Edmond are member towns. There are others, and I am not going to publish a list, because membership and participation are two different things and both are set by the town.

Ask me. If your bill comes from your city or town rather than a co-op, I will check your utility’s current level for you. There is also a minimum efficiency rating and an in-home energy audit before installation, which is work I already do anyway. The paperwork and the contractor agreement are my job, not yours.

The honest part

Geothermal is a premium purchase. It costs more up front than a standard system, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. What it buys is a machine that moves about $4.50 of heat for every $1 of electricity it uses. The rebate is real money against a real price, and there is also a $0 down path if you would rather talk about the monthly.
