What Kingfisher Weather and Water Do to Equipment

Three things chew up systems in this county, and all three are maintenance items:

• Red dirt and wheat dust. They pack into the outdoor coil until the unit cannot dump heat, which shows up on your bill in June and as a failed compressor in August. A field-side or gravel-road house gets dirtier faster than a house in town.
• Cottonwood and grass clippings. Cottonwood season mats a condenser coil solid in about two weeks. If you have a cottonwood in the yard, that is the year you do not skip the spring visit.
• Hard water. It lays sediment in the bottom of the water heater, which makes the tank noisy, slow and short-lived. That is why I flush them.

Add the wind and the hail we get, and the outdoor unit here has a harder life than the same model would three states east.

When to Book

Cooling gets checked in spring, before the first run of 95 degree days in May. Heating gets checked in fall, before the first hard freeze. The week everyone calls is the week after it turns, and that is exactly when I have the least room on the schedule. Maintenance is planned work. Book it early and take the slot you want.

Why a Local Plan Is Worth More Than the Discount

The repair discount is 10%, capped at $300. That is not the real reason to be on a plan with somebody in your own town. The real reason is that when you call in an emergency, I already know your system: what is installed, how old it is, what I flagged last spring, and what parts I need to bring. That is the difference between a same-day fix and a two-trip job waiting on a part.

Once a year at minimum, twice if you have a heat pump, because it runs in both seasons. Our dust and cottonwood are hard on outdoor coils, so the spring visit earns its money in this county.
