A second opinion on commercial HVAC equipment that will not run right

Somebody else installed it, and it still is not working right. That is one
of the most common calls I get on commercial equipment, and it is not an awkward call to make.

Will you look at equipment another company installed?
Hartzell’s Heat & Air regularly diagnoses commercial equipment installed or
serviced by other contractors, including brand new equipment still under manufacturer
warranty. On a September 2026 call in Guthrie, the rooftop equipment was new, had been
installed by a different company, and would not run. I found burnt parts on a building open
only a matter of hours.

What does a second opinion on commercial equipment cost?
A second opinion on commercial HVAC equipment is the same $389 flat diagnostic
Hartzell’s Heat & Air charges on any commercial call, day or night, for light commercial
equipment up to 15 tons. There is no separate “second opinion” rate and no discount
for saying those words. It is a real diagnostic, with a written finding, not a quick look and
an opinion off the top of my head.
Will you tell me if the first contractor made a mistake?
Hartzell’s Heat & Air will tell you exactly what I find on your equipment, in
plain language, without guessing at what someone else did or why. I document the
conditions I measure and see: burnt components, wrong wiring, undersized parts, refrigerant
charge that is off, controls that are not set up right. If you need that written finding for a
warranty claim or to take back to whoever installed the system, I will give it to you.
Should I get a second opinion before authorizing a big repair or replacement?
A second, independent diagnostic before authorizing a major commercial repair or
replacement gives you a documented data point, not just a second sales pitch. That is
especially true when the number you were quoted is a full system replacement and nobody showed
you what actually failed. It costs $389 to find out for certain, up to 15 tons, before you sign
off on a much bigger number.
Do you handle warranty issues on equipment you did not sell?
Hartzell’s Heat & Air can diagnose and document a warranty issue on equipment I
did not sell, but warranty labor and parts coverage depends on the manufacturer and the dealer
who holds that warranty, not on me. I put what I find in writing so you can take it to
whoever holds the warranty, or use it to have a hard conversation with the original installer.
I can measure and see on your equipment, in writing, so you can make the call with real
information instead of one company’s word against another’s.
Questions about second opinions on commercial equipment
Is a commercial HVAC second opinion free?
No. It is the same $389 flat diagnostic as any other commercial call, up
to 15 tons, day or night. A real diagnostic costs the same whether you call it a repair
visit or a second opinion.
Will you badmouth the company that installed my equipment?
No. I will tell you what I find and measure on your equipment, in plain
language, and stay on the facts rather than guessing at someone else’s reasons.
Can I use your findings for a warranty claim?
Yes, I will put what I find in writing. Whether it gets covered depends
on the manufacturer and whoever holds the warranty, not on me.
Do you work on equipment larger than 15 tons?
Yes. Equipment over 15 tons is sized and quoted by the technician once
he is on site, the same as any other commercial call.
Is it awkward to call for a second opinion?
Not from my side. It is one of the more common commercial calls I get,
and I would rather look at it than have you guess.
