Lake Texoma Area Geothermal Design and Installation Case Study

4.8 stars, 300+ Google reviews

Project type: Anonymous geothermal design and installation case study in the Lake Texoma / Cartwright, Oklahoma area. Customer identity, exact address, private pricing, private business system identifiers, precise GPS, faces, license plates, signatures, and private paperwork are intentionally omitted.

Project Summary

  • Generalized location: Lake Texoma / Cartwright, Oklahoma area
  • Verified scope: Designed, installed, and completed by Hartzell's Heat & Air.
  • Equipment/tonnage: The load calculation showed 8.83 tons net and 9.45 tons at 75% sensible capacity, but final installed tonnage is not published.

Documented Project Challenge

A large three-floor lake-area residence needed design work that respected both heating and latent cooling loads instead of relying on square footage alone.

Load and Design Notes

My Manual J, D and S load calculation came out to approximately 6,995 square feet, three floors, 87,661 Btuh heating load including ventilation, 85,010 Btuh sensible cooling, 20,982 Btuh latent cooling, and 105,992 Btuh total cooling.

Field Lesson

Large homes near lake humidity can be cooling-latent projects as much as heating projects. Manual J/D/S numbers keep the design from drifting into oversizing or unsupported tonnage claims.

Dave’s Geothermal Experience

I am IGSHPA accredited and a ClimateMaster GeoElite dealer, so on a load like the one behind this project I can carry the design from the load calculation through equipment selection and into commissioning. The final installed model is not published here, but the design discipline is the same on every geothermal job I do.

FAQ

How do you size geothermal for a large Oklahoma house?

Off a Manual J, D, and S set, never off floor area. On this house the load work is what kept the design from drifting into unsupported tonnage.

Does a lake house need more geothermal cooling capacity in Oklahoma?

Near water the latent load climbs, and this project ran nearly 21,000 Btuh of it. What geothermal does and does not do for humidity covers why that changes the sizing.
